I gotta shim my motor up on my American Flyer #433 0-6-0. Motor is from a later 0-6-0. Anyhow, when I screw the plate down, it ran better! Anyhow, I wanna use the old draw bar screw hole and drill it to clear a 2-56 screw and tap into the shim. Will the be stable enough? I thought of using a nut on the bottom of the frame (outside) and use as a lock nut to re-assure the shim will never wiggle. What y'all think?

I would think that the shim would be too thin to hold any threads by itself. The shim material would probably need to be made of brass and at least .040" thick.
Going all the way through and putting a locknut on the end sounds better.

Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

Its a weight plate from a trashed engine or car of some type. Thick steel and heavy too! I looked into today after looking around at my workbench.
