Last week I bought a Tyco C&O F7. It's mostly blue with a silver stripe and roof.
Saturday, I bought an unpowered to go with it, only to get home and see it's mostly silver, with a blue stripe. Otherwise identical.
- is one an error, or did they just change them for some reason during production?

| No, they sold two versions of the C&O F7, one had blue skirting with yellow writing on the side and the other was silver skirting with blue writing on the side. If I'm not mistaken, the blue with the yellow writing is the rarer of the two.

The blue ones were only made the first year or so when Tyco introduced their F9A (really a 7), 1959-60.
My understanding is no blue-skirted B units were made (or if they were, they define the word "rare") because Tyco did not offer a B-unit at the time. The silver-skirted one can be paired with a matching B Unit.

| I passed on a B-unit because someone had painted the grilles across the top in yellow. I almost wish I'd gotten it now so I could remember what color combo it was.

I checked my sets and my silver roof set is an A-unit powered and A-unit dummy. My blue roof set is A-unit powered and B-unit dummy, which fits the information Tony provided.
