Is there a way I could re-create decals from a steamer? I wanna make a unique Tyco Chattanooga steamer, but, retain the lettering and numbers on a decal.

I have copied non-white deacals from a boxcar and reproduced them on an ink jet printer then cleared the decal and applied them with success. You could go to an office supply store or a print shop and they could do it for you. Make friends with someone that has access to an Alps printer since they'll print white. :)

Wow... that link above is really comprehensive! Great technical detail for the stuff I have to deal with every time someone asks me to make them a set... honestly, every case is different! Some that seem easy are not, others are surprisingly simple!
I do have a basic (not NEARLY as TL;DR as the above) tutorial on my own site. Should give you more of a practical consideration of the methods and hows and whys to choose one or another. You're welcome to have a look...

I need white decals. I figured to have a exact cab replica for my 2-8-2 is to make a exact decal! I have no equipment like that or desire to.
