Before I trade this tender to EM-1, I decided to have some fun with it today. It turns out it fit my Decoder-equipped AHM Hustler chassis perfectly, so I took it to our club's Open House today, and ran it around for an hour or so. Was quite entertaining to the modelers there. :) Even the visitors seemed to like it. Nice to have some fun with trains for a change. The story behind it is, it ran behind engine 1313, until one winter the train was trying make station before a blizzard cut them off, but it got to them first. They tried to push through, but ice had formed between the rails on a high bridge over a deep river, and the engine derailed and left the tracks, plunging into the icy death below. The engine and bodies were never recovered. The tender was left precariously hanging behind. They tried to reuse it, but it became balky, and at times it would disappear from the yard and eventually wind up on the bridge again, all by itself. No one knows how. It's now known as the Haunted Hoosier Tender of 1313.

LOL! Ben, Jerry does have a caboose that can run on its own.

Yes, I haven't tried that caboose on that AHM Hustler though, I used another one. I think the motor on the AHM is too big without mods to the caboose window insert, but it fit the Tyco MU-2 Hustler chassis with minimal cutting. I just don't have the Tyco DCC'ed yet. I'll have to find another tender body to put on that AHM, and get the Caboose DCC'ed, then I can run them both at shows.

I thoroughly enjoyed the video. I liked at the end when the tender accelerates away from that freight train at high speed

I like that your club has non prototype cars roaming around, seems every club I've been in has all these prototype roads and not a single <ahem> "toy train" car (as they put it)
just me Ray... and just because I have Tyco doesn't mean I am not a model railroader

true that, rgcw5 I agree Ain't nothing wrong with whimsy, toy train, & silly stuffs on a layout
One time on a old club layout one of the modules had a nude lady at the door of a house talking to a cop yeah silly I know but its no worse than this HO model of a topless lady chasing after a monkey who had stolen her top
Since when are we serious about modeling? I'd say not all of us

The club I'm a member of has differences...most of the engines are high shelf...but there are some guys that are electrical wizrads that have P2K cars coupled to Tyco cars...Atheran cars hooked to Low end Life like cars...livestock outta scale...vehicles outta scale...etc..thats the whole idea...we all have the same interests and wanna do the same thing...PLAY WITH TRAINS....if my co-members horses are as tall as my loco, thats ok, at least we help each other put'em there...thats the cool thing....I cant wait to run my red box Tyco/Mantua GP-18 this weekend next to their $$$$ Bachmanns!!! I'm gonna love it!

That AHM chassis is pretty speedy, and quiet too. Must be a later one with a can motor.

No, it's got the black plastic-encased motor you find on those AHMs. I found a way to decrease the spring tension, so it runs smoother and faster by putting a tiewrap between the tension springs to take some of the tension off, it's way too much for that motor.

Yeah, the V spring on those motors puts way too much pressure on the brushes out of the factory, and that plus soft brush material makes them wear quickly. I compress the spring until it has just enough tension to hold the brushes in place. Without the excess brush friction the armature usually has a little flywheel effect.
I like that elevated section on the layout.
