OK, I making something for HO train car storage and need something soft. I like that black foam seen in some Athearn, Bachmann and Mantua boxes. Where can I get a big roll of this stuff? I thought about carpet padding also. I did see a universal air filter kit at WAL MART meant for window units. Any ideas?

I've looked for similar; searched "fun foam" and got this http://www.amazon.com/BLACK-FUN-FOAM-THICK-PACK/dp/B003EN7K80 - not sure if it is what you're after but might point you in right direction. I've found baseball card storage (cardboard) boxes make for great HO scale storage.

Some of the craft and fabric stores carry foam sheets, but not sure how thin, usually at least 1/2 an inch thick, but they may carry thinner. I'm lucky, as I work in Electronics manufacturing, so I get a constant stream of packing materials I can pick from that is thrown away, some thin foam sheets from 1/16th inch thick. Works well for me. Not sure commercially where you could find it and buy it, though.
