Ok not sure where to put this but I figure since this is a loco I would toss it in the loco section...but yea I had a great Christmas :D I am very happy to have my first true model train kit!! Best part is it is still in its original wrapping paper :D Not sure when this kit was made but I was out shopping with my significant other and made a comment of "gee I wish I could get that for Christmas" so we left and next day I decided to go there only to find it had been bought already :( made me sad so feeling defeated I went home and work on what I do have (other projects a plenty) and opened it up to find that it was the one I saw and wanted :D
So yea I have to say its been great :D

Very nice. I think it's amazing that there are still 40 year old toys, kits, etc. still out there for sale in their original packaging.(NIB). Somebody cares about you. That makes the gift extra cool.
I also thinks it's amazing that something like that is for sale local retail. Ebay is about the only source for me, if I want something like that.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

I hear ya, and I love the fact that its a blank slate!!! so I am gonna save the painting of it till I get really good at it and paint it in my rails paint scheme, so I want to do lots of practice first before trying on her, so I hope I won't ask a lot of stupid questions but since its my first true engine kit I am sure I will have questions and need help a lot!!!! LOL!!!! but anyways im excited and yes it was my significant other in life that got it for me, even tho they already complain that I have too many trains and need to get them off the floor and on a table to display them LOL!!!! But hey what more could one ask for? :D

Thanks guys and gals, I just hope I don''t wind up asking questions that may have been asked before...I have never put one together so I know I will be needing help doing so :( as for tools whats the usual kit I should have, whats recommended to have? or better what tools should I have/do I need to successfully complete kits like this?
also should I grease the gears before assembly or wait till the motor unit is together then grease them?
