I thought I'd post this since I found a source for removable coal loads for Tyco hopper cars. My local Virginia, USA club member friend Dave Ptak took over a business making coal loads for scale cars, and he has some right nice stuff. I took some Tyco Virginian hopper cars to a show last year to see if he could make a load for them since each maker (Athearn, Walthers, Tyco, Bachmann, etc ) seem to have slightly different hopper dimensions, so he custom makes the loads for each manufacturer. Well, it turns out that the 40' loads that fit Athearn also fit Tyco. I forget how much they are, they aren't priced in the pictures here, so you'll have to contact him. I think they were 7 dollars for 2 loads. But don't hold me to that. I have forgotten. Here's the pics and contact info if anyone is interested. The nice thing about removable loads is, you can realistically take a string of coal cars on the layout to the unloading facility, and then remove the loads by hand and send the empties back to the mines. Not being glued in has its advantages. Also each load is not cast plastic, it's actual grains, so they are all unique and not cookie-cutter loads, they differ slightly from one to another. Even more realism. Anyhow, here's the visuals -

Above, here's a red Athearn and silver Tyco coal hopper cars in comparison, same load.

There ya go, if you are interested, contact Dave directly. Tell him Jerry Casper sent ya
