Hello everyone!
So, I'm going to be honest here and let you know that I'm not a real collector. However, i recently came into a serious cache of train sets, rolling stock, tracks, power packs, accessories, buildings, etc...
I was in my grandparents attic when i found boxes and boxes of train stock from tyco, bachmann, ahm, and a few athearn pieces. It's nearly all HO scale but I found a few N scale pieces as well. Also, I found two diecast pocher cars. A tycopro nascar grand national richard petty/bobby allison slot car set unopened, a tycopro 40 degree hi-banked track kit and several loose flat track slot car pieces.
Here's my dillema...my grandfather was a premium salesman in the 60's-80's and some of the sets i have were custom created, boxed, and sealed for some big companies. For instance, I have a sealed tyco set that comes in a spirit of 76 box and has the bi centenial locomotive and caboose but has tropicana rolling stock because it was created for tropicana. I have two of the bachmann zenith video sets but those were actually produced for a limited time so at least I can actually find information about them.
There is a lot of rolling stock from all three manufacturers that I can't find any information about and I'm assuming that it's because those companies opted not to mass produce. If my grandfather was still alive, I would ask him but unfortunatly he is gone. So that leaves me to ask the tyco collectors and train fanatics! Any information would be awesome and I can supply pictures or whatever you need. Though most of the boxes don't even have item numbers printed on them.
Please help!

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the value you could get for them. Since you have no interest in keeping them, I would post them on eBay using good pictures and descriptions and let the market decide. I think you will be pleasantly surprised--and sometimes disappointed at the final sales prices. HO and N are made in large quantities, so the majority of the equipment will sell but not garner the vast fortune folks think they've just found. However, premium sets like you described will command more money for that particular crowd and there are a few high demand older HO pieces out there.

Zombievickers, I wouldn't try to get the "value" out of them, as really nothings worth anything, UNLESS someone is willing to pay that amount, and with the economy, I doubt you would ever get that.
As Shaygetz says, list 'em on Ebay and see where they go!

Hello, It sounds like you got some good stuff and if it's money your looking for this is really not the place to be, ebay is the way. The Tropicana set you talk about, one recently sold on ebay on Nov 27 for $150, and that is normally the area the new Bicentennial sets go for. When you go into ebay check the sold listings of the items that have sold to help determent your prices. Good luck.

| it's not that i'm looking for money, i mean obviously i would like to sell them for a good price but i'm kind of just looking for a starting point. i have been looking at ebay auctions to kind of gauge what everything is worth but some things are hard to find or not at all. i know a lot of what i have is pretty readily available and with some of the rarer items it's a matter of finding a buyer, it doesn't matter what any of it is worth if i don't find someone who wants it lol.

That's a Mantua. I have one myself and re-motored it with a new Mantua Classics motor, pulls much better!

I'm not opposed to it, please message me with which ones you are interested in!
I'm going to be posting better, more detailed pictures as soon as they are uploaded, so check in on the forum later. Though, I will probably start a new thread for them :)
