My loco is one I aquired months ago from my favorite train store. A Tyco Santa Fe Plymouth. Eventually it will have the Santa Fe Zebra stripe paint whenever I get around to it on my list...

Almost everyone has one I have the transformers one that's awaiting it's turn in the shop. Needs wiring work, and new springs and brushes, all of which I have but time is what I don't have for it right now.

My contribution this week is my first Brass? engine. I THINK it qualifies, it's got a cast zamac base and boiler, but the cab and details are def brass. So is this actually considered a brass engine? I don't know. Anyway, got it at the York, PA show today for $45, guy wouldn't come down, and I liked it, so I figured it was worth the $'s. He said it ran great.

I've seen a couple like this on here lately, so here's mine:

This has been a bit of a project. I bought it at an antique store for a "great deal." Of course it didn't run. I crudely remotored it with a can motor, and away it went. I got about a week of fun out of it before one of the rods (don't know the name) came off the wheel. I managed to get the nut to put it back on from a junk loco, and all was well for a few more days. Then it came off again. I got tired of tinkering and put it away. I've been considering selling it.

Mantua Busy Bee, wow, that is rare! It resembles the Baldwin locomotives sent to Europe/UK during WWII.
I think, also, it was a hard sell for the guy because it's in very good shape. Clean (minus chipped black paint,) and an original loop coupler. Keep that attached! Again, it matches the ones that were fitted for European freight/passenger trains.

to Burlington77 - screwed up a posting containing a reply. You mention that the screws attaching the main and side rods to the wheels loosen up, This is a common problem. A little Loctite on the screws should solve the problem.
If you need new hex head screws or bushings let me know - I've got a lot of spare parts for Tyco and Bowser engines - free for the price of postage.

This is my LOTW: It is a Milwaukee Road 4-6-4 Hudson by Rivarossi
I paid $26 + s/h for it and 11 other passenger cars and another 0-4-0 engine.

I paid $70 for mine, and I thought that was a good price, but yours is even the RP25 version. It looks like the pilot cowling is slightly pulled away from the boiler.

Are those the matching coaches you got with it, or something else? Either way, that was a steal.

It was engine only with no tender. It was a good deal as i figure I should be able to part with it for anything between $50 and $70 as it is. The nose on all the Rivarossi streamlined boilers is actually a separate piece that mounts to the front of the shell. They should slip off and on with ease and are not glued in any way. I see no damage therefore with this one.

No coaches to match, but I figure for the price I paid for everything I should clear a 3-4x profit for sure.

Actually Jerry,
It is called the Busy Little "B", not Bee. It is a replica of a C&NJ engine.
It was made for approx 3 years in the early 1950s and was the pre-curser to the all die cast metal Booster. It shares the same chassis as the Goat and the Mighty Mite. The Mite was the pre-curser to the Shifter and the Goat was available pre-WWII. Given the time of year, I think you got a good / fair price. I just sold one this week for ~$10 more.

I checked mine, and it isn't glued, at least at the bottom. It probably just got its nose out of joint.
The main boiler casting is actually for the Dreyfuss Hudson, with different noses, skyline casing, and skirting applied for everything from the Blue Goose to the LV John Wilkes.

If O scale, its a Rivarossi kit John. Power'd kits or power kit options are very, very , rare! They also made a C-Liner and the IHB 0-8-0 kits in O scale with optional power kits.

Badman, you would be CORRECT! I must say for what it is, its nicely detailed! And no, its not something I would have sought out to buy, BUT, it was a gift for me from my Dad for Christmas and with that, makes it a good gift......Not that I drink, nevermind Jim Beam, but when I do drink its Jack Daniels "Gentleman Jack" on the rocks or mixed, with Coke Cola.....Then again, thats been a long time too, as I actually can not remember the last time I had as much as a sip never mind a whole glass!

Wow, I didn't know my loco was so popular. I've had 4 requests to buy it. I really hadn't decided if I was going to sell it or not, and I don't even know where to start with a price. Anyone with ideas of what it's worth, PM me and I'll consider it. We can also discuss the condition further if necessary. I know this isn't a buy/sell/trade discussion so that's all I'll say about that.
By the way, I love microbusss's Fleischmann. I'm not a big UP fan, but I've got two Fleischmann locos and I love the way they work.

B77, those hex screws snug up nicely with a 3mm nut driver. I've had some loosen up after getting them from a previous owner, but never after I tighten them myself, and I don't use thread lock. I wouldn't part with it over something so simple.

Badman, Run good? As it seems to be in really good shape it makes me wonder, and if so, do you know which motor is in it?

The real locomotive was rebuilt 3/three times, each of which was from a derailment, and each of those derailments killed the engineer... after the last derailment, it was rebuilt without the capability to be fired up again. Built specifically to be a display locomotive.
John Luther Jones, from Kaycee, Kentucky, was a leadfoot... the information I read, about his life, was that his attitude was a bit careless, but, he did get most of his trains at their destination on time or much earlier.
You don't memorialize an infamous employee or his profession.
There were two "Casey Jones" variety cartoon shows televised... Alan Hale Jr.(Skipper on Giligan's Isle) was the "Casey Jones" in the Canadian show... I think.
Aside the alcohol theory, John Luther Jones had "his" 4-6-0 specially made, the clerestory cab roof, and six-chime Calliope whistle, was his choice. Before the demise of him and his 382, his previous locomotive was a low-boiler 2-8-0 #802, I think, of which he is photographed in... photographed, and then retouched by another film developer/early photo-shop picture manipulator, put the Casey in his cab, retouched the tender number to read 382, and "deleated" the fireman standing on the ground because he was in front of the tender number... in other words, there is no real picture of Casey Jones of him in the cab of the I.C. 4-6-0 #382.
April 30th... 1900... His farewell trip, slammed into the rear of a stalled train trying to get off the main line, the airline had burst... No "cornfield meet", not a six-eight-wheeler, but he did tell Sim Webb to jump off. Casey Jones cared a lot about Sim Webb. Casey saw Sim as a good partner/co-worker. Not too many engineers back then cared about their firemen, especially when racism was quite predominant.
Anyway, my $2 CA... floating above and below par.
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

John, Interesting story of Casey Jones! Its funny that alot think he only engineered the 382....but I knew he ran others as well, (the 2-8-0)
As for his carelessness, was in fact his demise and the the locomotive in 1900. I didn't know the farewell trip was to end in slamming into a stalled train on the mainline. Not saying It isn't true, I just never knew that part of the Casey Jones legacy.
Needless to say, a VERY interesting story!

It has the vertical motor that powers the rear truck.

Thats a good powering, altho, it might depend on if its the can motor or the old Rivarossi "coffee grinder" motor.....

I think relatively few E8's got the noisy square bronze bearing motor. Most I've seen either have the ball bearing motor or the round can. Those ball bearing units are smooth.
