Other than a downed tree in the backyard, and a flooded basement,we made it through ok. I'm so glad we didn't lose power, and none of my collection was damaged.

Dry and no downed trees here, but lots of basement pumping on the south shore of Long Island. But with all the money I've made, it may be time for some more trains!
Pitty fleet expansion came at the cost of others...

We're about to get hit again with another nor'easter... we snap. I guess I have more basements to pump out then. Good luck admin with the generator.
I hope that after the rest of the east coast gets power, we can get back to discussions. I've found more time for the workshop, and I'm looking to start and finish at least one project this week. Can't get to Trainland 'casue I'm out of gasoline (burned it all in pump-outs), and the closer shops appear to have flooded.
Wonder if I can recover flooded trains in my travels?

I was without power for only 48 hours, which was incredibly lucky in my area. The other end of my block is still without power with no relief in sight. It's still hard to get around, because so many streets are still blocked by trees, poles, and power lines.
We were very fortunate compared to the coastal regions. People in places like Staten Island are really suffering, and the FEMA response has been as bad or worse than Katrina, but at least Obama got his photo op.

In No. NJ- 11 days without electric, heat, phone, etc..... I pulled out my B-O-B. I used the sterno stove and a single burner camp stove to to cook on. Light was no problem at night as I used a Coleman Retro Lantern and a Quad Lantern, both worked well especially the Quad. I used a Western Mountaineering Ultralight Bag with a USMC Goretex Bivy bag...toasty!!! I also had my cross-country ski pants/top on (Polyproplene). The temp in my condo was 47oF. At night the low was 21oF one night, low 40's during the day. Got 4" of snow from the NE'r. There were 40 homes destroyed in the area by falling trees. The power company said there were some 30,000+ trees down. Eventually the Red Cross showed up with food. I snagged 5 cases of MRE's for the next event.... I rather enjoyed the survival/cold weather test. The one thing I didn't account for was the boredom in the evening when it was dark out and below freezing. If it was the summer I might have been able to read a book. I lost $250 worth of food in the freezer despite attept to have 4 1-Gal bags filled with water. frozen into blocks of ice. This was a tough loss as I am unemployed. I guess I will go join tean obama and apply for food stamps....??? The Jersey shore was devastated by the winds and tidal surge. I guess we were lucky up north....???

In the past with other storms they have been the ones without power for a week or more go figure
At one time they had 9 relatives, three parakeets, one iguania, two chickens in the garage. sleeping everywhere

AF, I know what you mean about the boredom, and I only had to deal with it for 2 nights. I did a lot of radio listening... local news, the public service band, and plenty of Ham operators... I'm always stocked up on batteries.
I was amazed that as we were taking the brunt of it, two amateurs in Ohio were saying they were getting 55 mph winds and their power was threatening to go out. That's a gigantic system.
