News just broke out on my cite of the inaugural run of my newly repaired Bachmann 2-8-2 UP #2528!! After a long month of continued repairs she finally runs good! The repairs were, 2 new drive axles on the 2nd and 3rd drivers, split frame wire adjustment, rod repair, gear repair, and realligning all the wheels to their proper locations. I finally watched my hard work run free as it ran up and down my test track! Of course it's noisy with the pancake motor but I will only use it on special ocasions. Now my main project is done! Visit my website for more info on the project! (link is below my signature)
here she is fully assembled again!
pulling her first train!

Very pretty. I know I don't have anything like that in my collection. It's very nice and you should be proud of all your hard work.

Hyde, Hows it run? For a Bachmann it looks GREAT....But running is probably has alittle wobble still I'd imagine. Good to see you got it back on the active roster!
P.S. Did you add the Elasco Feedwater Heater? As I don't think Bachmann offered them on those models! LOOKS GREAT THO!

John, yes the Elesco is original to these. Shaygetz has posted pictures of his. It may be fantasy, but it looks good with it.
Hyde, is she smooth at low speeds? That's the real test for proper quartering, but I think these could still have a little lope in their step even with factory assembled drivers.
My junker 2-8-0 was such a headache. I had to glue the broken plastic crosshead guides back to the valve gear hangers, which is near impossible. The mounting pin for the hanger on one side was also snapped off. I drilled a hole in its place and mounted the hanger on a long small dia. screw... don't remember the size at this point, but it was from an assortment of very small screws I bought at True Value, all the way down to 0-80.
I was like this afterward:

It runs just as good as it did right when i got it...before it broke! Yes it does have a slight wobble, was terrible without the trailing truck a few days ago! Anyways slow speeds..ehh she's iffy, but good enough! Nelson the hanger pin broke on the left side on my loco!! I just zapped it in place! That is the temporary solution long term I planned on doing exactly what you stated below! The light and smoke unit are still out didn't think it'd be running good again this fast.... Thanks for the compliments guys!!

Nelson, Thats news on me! I have 2 o these in UP paint, and not one of them has the Elasco Feedwater Heater on the boiler front, and no "open" holes for mounting such! I guess with that detail, I learned something today!
The screw you would need Hyde is a 0-80 machine thread to repair that valve gear hanger. BUT your going to needto drill the hole at .050 of an inch drill and then tap it for 0-80 machine thread, and then once done add Zap to the treads, turn it into the hole QUICKY, and allow the screw to protrude from the frame, atleast 1/2 inch and allow Zap to cure, test fit the hanger, and cut to length (REMOVE head of screw)

John, I just left the head on the screw so it just goes through the frame and screws into the plastic hanger. I wanted mine removable. It's a low profile pan head, so it doesn't short the frame.

OHH you went through from the inside of the frame then! I was thinking of drilling taping from the outside without taking the whole works apart.....Then turned the screw into the frame from the middle or "opening" between the frame sections....
Not a bad idea!

Just wait till next year! This Rivarossi 0-8-0 will be running down my new line! All i have is the frame, running gear, and tender. Sold the boiler years ago, came back to bite me in the A$$ now that I'm actually rebuilding it. The running gear was a mess! When it was removed from the frame back in 2009 it all fell apart! a wheel cracked down the middle and now has a hole where the axle is supposed to go.. and the 2nd driver fell off its' axle. It was in such sorry shape I new i had to do something. I moved it into my new Seybold Locomotive Works where the long plan to repair the frame and wheels went underway! I took off old the rods, cleaned them. cleaned and painted the wheel faces black, painted the frame black, the tender body was already painted a year ago. I had to put it on hold to repair this 2-8-2 and other engines but today after I finished my 2-8-2 I went back to work on the old 0-8-0. I repaired 3 of the 4 wheels and they fit in the frame and rolled properly! The 3rd axle which is the geared one can't be used. I assembled the side rods on both sides! Also put the hanger on the frame, took the valve guides which were sitting in a boxcar, cleaned them and installed them! I have a buddy that has a geared wheel for an 0-8-0 that I will purchase in a week! Then finish assembling the running gear! However the problem with the pilot beam is that it's missing its' steps.... anybody have steps? My plan was to buy a brass pilot beam identical to the one on the 0-8-0, cut the old one and place the new one on, but it seems like a lot of work for me right now. Finished the tender today too! New trucks and cleaned the original wheels! It now has its own spot in my Seybold Locomotive Works! Plan is to finish the frame and running gear by December. I have the motor, it works great, just needs new wire.
here's where she sits! I have more photos if you guys want!
here's the view of my Seybold Locomotive Works
BTW john this is the project that I want your boiler for!

Dude, I'd think about using that as a parts loco for another 0-8-0. Is that oil all over it?

Hyde, Nelsons right, thats a parts wagon, not much left of it! I have all the parts you need for that locomotive EVEN the driver and motor.....But being a Rivarossi, thats gonna be costly, more then you know unless you have something good for trade.....
As far as paint is concerned, there is something smeared all over the front and what looks to be the side of the tender....... isn't no way that paints fresh!

Why? I've already done hours of rebuilding work! I certainly ain't giving up this soon and the tender I honestly don't know, it had been sitting for years and never been touched, ohhh wait hang on i was washing it today, water, no soap and rubbed off the dust and blew most of the water off with my air compressor. the air ran out before I was done, just had to turn it on but I thought I was mainly done guess not! I thought he meant the pilot beam, no the tender just has water I will assure you on that! And john as I said I'm getting everything that is NEEDED. New geared wheel, new boiler and new lead wire, that's all it needs to run. I only need your boiler.

No, just poured water from a bottle onto it. I'm more suprised you guys would consider junking this engine! I only have a Rivarossi 0-6-0T #66 hence where my user name comes from and it needs no parts plus I've done so much to it already. I'm a huge fan of these crazy massive restoration projects! Like my #5, #99, and #2. It only needs the new parts to arrive and time to put it all together, I've got both. Just gotta finalize the trade deal with John #1 first
