Sorry guys, THATS an OLD TYCO! I have a few of them! The rusty metal plate you see about 3/4th up from the bottom ought to have 2 "ears" sticking out about an 1/8 of an inch wide, by about an 1/8th of an inch deep.....This is the plate that "snaps" into the body shell, of what looks to be an F unit, OR a RF-16 "Shark"....HOWEVER thats the front truck so, it could ALSO snap into any of the other TYCO's....

Ted, you have a picture of the part from the top down to see it as such as if you were standing right over top of it?

Sorry guys, Yes, the flat car would be the newer Varney thats in plastic? As I have 2 or 3 of those that are plastic, and the stake pockets are slightly over sized, and the holes in them should be round?

IF I'm not mistaken the car itself, was in the last years of Varney, just before they were sold to Life-Like!

Ted,
Does the underside have of that flat car, have like a separate section that looks like it covers up a steel weight? Mine does! BUT with the separate draft gear box to trucks would indicate that it is a Varney car. as the ones made by Life-Like, had talgo mounted draft gear and couplers.

Gordon Varney sold his train company to Sol Kramer of Life Like in 1957. Sol Kramer marketed the Varney name until 1968. In 1968 the Varney tooling was moved from Miami to Taiwan and the trains were sold under the Life Like name. The only NYC flat cars Varney cataloged were black. The silver NYC flat is not listed in Greenberg's Varney book.
