Here are motors used for tyco engines 1975 and up. Also in the pictures below is the mantua motor used in early tycos and all mantua diesels. The only differences in tyco's are the side frames. All have the same truck that screws on bottom of casting. On alco 630's you have 3 drive wheels and all alco's(tyco motors only) have a dummy axle in center.

picture of alco 630 motor with trailing pick up. this motor also used on GG1 locomotives

close up of motor and gears. this one has new drive bands from calmet

same motor with alco side frames. only difference is dummy axle in center.

bottom view of all alco driven locomotives. notice dummy axle in center

mantu mu motor. found on early tyco/mantua and mantua 430's and GP20's

view of mu motor from mantua.(this one is out of a GP20)

side view of mantua mu. on bottom of truck is two center gear driven axles. Rivets hold truck and wheels to frame as motor is in center.

picture of tyco motor casting for front and rear truck casting. These are the same for all tyco powered diesels.

left=mantua rear power pick-up-metal tabs to mount to shell. Right=tyco-all-rear power pickup for motor

picture of alco 630 side frames-alco 430 and tyco f unit-top of pic.-- motor is same for all.

picture of tyco motor with winding and magnets.

gear side of tyco motor with out wheels or dummy axle.

630 motor mounts. left photo is motor and right is rear truck mount. they are different as front has a wider tab.

view of 630 mounts and alco 430 mounts. The top right mount is also used on f units-GP20's and all tyco alco 430's. It is also used on the rear trucks also of f units. The rear 430 mount is in top left of photo

Over the years I've found many sideframes that were glued to the mantua mu-2 motor/truck have fallen off. Any suggestions as to what kind of glue can be used to re-attach?
Also, I've purchased a 1970's era brass locomotive (SW-1500 as I recall.) that suffered from the same problem. The only difference between the brass model and the tycos was the brass sideframe was soldered on. Apparently thirty to forty years ago, there wasn't much difference between high and low end!

DT,
I use a product called JB Weld,or JB Quick to reattatch side frames.
This stuff works very well, and is made for the automotive repair trade.
Just make sure the surfaces you are fixing are free of oil,and grease.

Hey Brian,
Did you ever see Aurora slot cars from the 60's. I think the Tyco armature looks identical. Anybody else feel the same?

I noted that to Brian in a PM recently. It's exactly right. The semi-circular magnets; one was Red and the other grey.
