The quarterly Suncoast Model Railroad Club Flea Market in St. Pete (FL) was held this past weekend, 15-16 Sep, and I finally got a "kitchen pass" from the wife to spend some time and money there.

Among my finds was an Athearn 50 foot mech reefer that looked interesting:

I also was able to get 60 more Intermountain metal wheels (insulated) to upgrade my rolling stock projects- such as that mill gondola I just built a load for.

One vendor I passed was engaged in a deep discussion with a friend behind his table, and when I stopped to ask a question, he gave me a new-in-box Atlas plate girder bridge for free-perhaps the conversation was too important to be "sidetracked". He wanted to give me three of them, but I could only figure a use for one- I am working that one this week and will post an image later on.

I picked up an Athearn BB flat car kit with two "National Carloading" trailers, but the trailers need some cosmetic work- enough to justify re-branding them as Great Northern ones and weathering the flat car a bit.

Last but not least:

I also came across a Life-Like Dockside 0-4-0 (post-1973 with large can motor) that one guy gave me for $5.00. It runs rough- but needs substantial cleaning. If anyone has any experience with this model, please advise me of what I should look for and if any upgrade is needed.

Not a bad weekend, considering the small amount of money I had to spend and the even smaller amount I actually spent!

Ahhh the life like docksider, never really will be the most enjoyable locomotive. Never have any problems with mine, and mine's recently repainted but cleaned, oiled, they run very well. There is a scrw that holds down the motor and when i removed it all the bad sound went away, now dont worry, the motor isn't loose, with that tight shell it aint goen no where! Screw to remove the boiler shell is in the smokestack however being yours was an early one i don't know.
I buy, repair, and collect

Ron, don;t be suprised if the Like Like goes clunk clunk around the track. I have one myself with the cheapie China knock-off Pittman. Runs well. Just a annoying clunk clunk clunk.
