Here are two cabooses I picked up at the LHS yesterday. They were in pretty good shape, $3 each. When I bought them they were pretty regular, no weathering, detailing or anything. A Bachmann CP and a Lima PC. I painted handrails, and windows on the CP. The Penn Central I weathered.
Canaidian Pacific, standard Bachmann train-set style caboose. I photographed it by the new pond, you can't see the pond reeds in this picture unfortunately, made out of clippings from an old plastic broom.
The other end. I painted the Ladder and handrail assembly and the window frames. Dunno if it's prototypical but it looks good to me!
The end of the Penn Central. This is a standard Lima caboose. Still needs a smokestack and both cabooses need window glass still. You can see I painted the handrails and chain.
The other side of the Lima.

Hi ChessieRR,
Looking good! I have not tried to weather any of my trains, all though I do have one that someone else did or it had a bad paint day, lol.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Weathering is great, but it all depends on the style you're looking for. Notice I didn't weather the CP caboose because I wanted it to look newer. To do the weathering on the Penn Central I covered each side with thinned acrylic paints and the wiped it off with a sponge, leaving some residue on each side in the cracks and some streaks too. It's really easy to do, but as I said, it all depends on the look you want for your railroad.

Cool stuff Caboose 1! That Tyco boxcar looks great, I'll bet most "rivet counters" wouldn't guess the origins of that car. It look extremely realistic.

Great looks on the Penn and the CP booses!! and Caboose1 you did great work as well, here I might as well show one of mine too that I kinda started, but since it had a bad day with its steps I dedided it wasn't worth the troubles it was having, it was my first painted unit as well!!
Just a few basic parts, smoke stack, ladders and breeze way on the roof in orange and green, supposed to be safety orange but it works....

Yes its a Bowser, got it for a review, did the review, and its a nice piece but its gonna be redone into either a building at the yard for my rail road or something like that, it isn't the greatest thing to roll on my rails, but hey i may try to weather it some more and use it like a yard masters office or something like that! haven't decided what I want it to become honestly....I do have two old booses that are possibly destined to become converted "homes" for use on my layout (haven't decided which layout they will be used on yet). anyways love to see more works from you guys :)

Ben, Please see picture:

PM me ASAP on it as what you see in the picture I took, the "big" white area is the "BN" emblem, and the smaller one is the "BN" reporting marks, I took "paint" and added in the "1972". And to add the "MOW" as well.....I didn't set and cut these decals out to take the picture BUT I did the BN emblem, AND the reporting marks.....
I have the means of the MOW and the 1972 so......It was merely easier to add them in with the paint feature of my computer......
Let me know what you would like to see......The large BN emblem is all I got for the emblem so......I want to make sure this is good for you on the custom work you would like to see done to it as the caboose itself, is your work, I'm merely adding the lettering!

Jim, I didn't build that caboose, I am just adding decal lettering to it for "microbusss" AKA Ben.....
He built it BUT if your interersted, I have PLENTY of those type cabs I could put one together for you as they aren't to difficult to make!
PM me if your interested!
Also, you can call me John, the B&O's "EM-1" is my favorite locomotive......

Ben, Good news is its "just" sitting there..... That BN logo is BIG and I do mean BIG.....
I will have to trim it to fit around the windows on the other side, which is why I positioned it on the caboose, as you see it..... Will that be an issue?
As long as you can handle the BN logo trimed around the windows, I can move it as its not on the plastic yet, as I merely cut out the decal and "sat" it on the model, its not even been in water at this point......
Let me know and I'll begin the placement of the decals.....

Jim, I get into all sorts of custom things.....as quite a few here knows, I get into it DEEP........ I love the work and enjoy what turns out on the finished product just about every time!
You'll have to let me know on your ideas.......a lot of times, I can make things happen with very little thought......with alittle work, and look GREAT when completed!
