Ben,
CSX had tank tenders between ALL of there Dash 8's and Dash 9's (which were one and the same on the outside!) To keep the fuel tanks topped off at all times!

A lesson:

When GE first came out wit hthe Dash 8 series locomotives, They were well liked by CSX......THEN, GE mentioned the up and coming Dash 9's.......CSX jumped, Made orders on the Dash 9's before they were even completed! SO, what had happened with this is CSX got Dash 8's that look like Dash 8's, 4,000 HP and then the 4,400 HP Dash 9's were ordered before they were ready and GE took the Dash 8 chassis, and put in Dash 9 internals......

CSX classification? C40-8/C40-8W, and then theC40-8/C44-8W! The last order of Dash 9's CSX got, were fully Dash 9 details inside and out.

The first 2 orders I believe were Dash 8's on the outside Dash 9's on the inside!

[LOL} Funny, huh? BUT at that time, they all were fitted with Fuel tenders from 62 foot tank cars!

I owned a Kodak 110 camera... they don't do well in winter-cold conditions... why my input?

I shot many BN trains/locomotives with the LP Gas tender between the two SD40-2's...

unfortunately, my camera and film became... shot! couldn't even get the 110 roll of film out in one piece...

That CN tank looks awesome! Any chance of a full on-side photo?

John

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.

Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Don't know about the CN version, but I seem to recall that BN stopped operating their tenders between locomotives because they couldn't handle the stresses.

No Ben, it doesn't sound like good MPG to me either! WOW Only 800 miles? You almost have to wonder why they even thought it be a good conversion to do on a locomotive if thats all it got.....I wonder what the diesel fuel MPG was for the original prime mover at 20,000 Gallons of diesel?
