Are there any differences in rod length between the roundhouse old time 2-8-0 and harriman 2-8-0? My harriman consolidation needs main rods and an old time 2-8-0 on ebay is a potential choice but i need to make sure the rod length is the same. Can anyone chime in? Thanks

Hyde,
Rod length. which rods? main rods or connecting rods?

Main rods I would say are the same for both locomotives! The connecting rods that span the drivers may be different, BUT, I really don't believe MDC Roundhouse would make 2 different frames for each of the 2-8-0 types........ but I could be wrong, I just see that being true to!

SO, I think it be safe to say they're all the same!

Even if the Main rods were different, it wouldn't matter much as the wheel "roll" would be the issue and to make that work all you need to do is pull the crosshead out of the cylinders as far as it goes, and then if the piston was to long, cut off enough to allow it to move freely inside the cylinders BUT allow alittle to keep the piston rod inside the cylinders!

Yes main rod, with the main piston that goes into the cylinders. Okay thats great to hear!! All I need is the main rods so eventually if i were to win the bid i'd return the locomotive being used for parts to operation.

Hyde,
Then you should be good to go as I don't see MDC making a completely different main rod for the 2 locomotives, which would be costly to keep going for each one even tho MDC really, is no more, and being absorbed by Athearn, under Horizon Hobbies.
