I understand Gareth was dealing with something that is keeping him from visiting the forum. This is a HELLO, to Gareth, and I hope things are going well for you...

I touched base with him last week, and he's been working on becoming a machinist and obtaining shop equipment more than trains. I don't know if he's out there listening.

I have to jump right in here......... I KNOW what he's dealing with in this one, I done much the same a long time ago!
I wound up with an entire machine shop as a few of you know, all related to the train repairs and such, now, its a whole other story, all of my own with the great help of a dear friend I lost some years ago and always think of with this.....
Anyone that wonders the story for me? Visit my website in my signature and read the History of Yellowstone Train Repairs, thats where this all began and how it all started....Good memories!

Many have tried to, and failed, ya just can't repair stupid...
Do NOT try to Idiot-Proof anything!!!! God, will simply create a better......IDIOT!

| He was pretty excited about this when he emailed me a few days ago... I've not had a chance to reply there yet so on off-chance he catches this, I'm exicted that it's going well so far. He's talked about doing this sort of thing almost from the day I joined here. Nice to see it coming along... I hope it pans out fully!

Hey Guys:
Just saw this.
really, I thank you all.
Actually the thing I'm most excited about is helping one of my Girls achieve a little dream which in her case is seeing Idina Menzel in Concert.
As to the machining and Gardening well I'm acquiring accessories (slow speed bracket, steady rest, CNC mounts...) for my two Unimats and having a backing plate made (Too large a piece of steel to turn on my lathes, about 16lbs of 5.25 x 2.125 Hot rolled low carbon steel) for a rogue chuck I got with my Larger Atlas lathe. I finished my Program at the local college in machining which as I noted showed me how much i dont know and have to learn and I'm excited about that.... so the REAL learning begins now. I'll post pics of my two final course projects.... one is a Precision ground V-Block and the other a Tap Wrench....
The garden; well winters setting in and I have sprouted a bunch of Basil from seeds growing under lights.... more sprouts to follow and like machining so much to learn. Projects for winter learning to bake home made healthy bread and organic home-made cheese...
So the world is pretty interesting. If I won a lottery I'd take in about 50 at risk teens as Foster kids and help them learn in a much better way what's worth living for than I did initially living on the streets as a teen.
To keep this appropriately topical I finally sent the near Saintly and ever patient catfordken the last of the money I owe him on a Brass Steamer deal we have been working on since Moses was in short Pants.
To all my Yankee Cousins Happy Thanksgiving!
To you all, As Shay would say; Blessings!
