You might not think this is amazing but, I do. Last January, my brother went to a train show and bought me a 1/87 scale DC-3. It's the Cornerstone model. It was cheap, $10. The guy said he wasn't sure if it was all there. Box was kind of falling apart. Anyway, I get the kit and the left side stabilizer/elevator for the DC-3 is missing. Well, I"ll just fabricate one from balsa or maybe even cast one in resin. This past weekend I went to a train show. Some guy pulls a box of misc. stuff from underneath one of the vendors table and starts going through it. I decide to watch and see if there is anything I want. He digs through all the stuff and there in the bottom of the box, I spot a plastic part for a model airplane. You guessed it. It was the left stabilizer/ elevator for the Cornerstone DC-3. This was from a different train show and different vendor, plus I just happened to be where this guy was looking through the box. That is amazing to me.

That sounds like destiny. I don't think I've ever come across airplane model parts at the many train shows I've been to over the years.

Hmmm maybe that vendor bought a box of parts from that other vendor that sold the plane.

But as Nickleplate759 pointed out, it just sounds like a case of model railroading destiny to me. Planning on an airport for your model railroad?

Those serendipitous finds are the best ones at any price, aren't they? I've had a few of those and they're always memorable, even years later. Like the closest you'll come to winning the lottery. I always feel a little silly thinking "nobody else would appreciate the story behind this silly object" so it's nice to know you're not alone :)

I know just what you mean. We add to our trains what we like. Here is other trains from the Greenberg train show. Also some are from my friend Charlie. Mixed in this group of trains and Gilbert-2, Walters/trainminature, Marx-4, AHM-1, Red Ball-1, hobbytown/athearn-1, Penn-Line-2, Varney-1, Fleischmann-1, LL P1000 F3-1, Gem brass-2, Aristo Craft-1, Mantua/Tyco, and International-1. A good mix of old trains.

Yes John. It is a Athearn GP9. It has a Hobbytown drive. That is why I got it. When the GP9 was released that was the Sants Fe paint skeem. It was changed to the Blue and yellow after 10 years or so. It is a hard to find Athearn GP9.

Hey Buss ;
* When you check the roof of the CB&Q F3 the square section at the end of the roof is blank. This means it is not passenger equipped. It doesn't matter, I'll just make be leave it is. That works for me. I will be geting a matching B unit, powered, Maybe it will be.
