Sad news indeed. just the other day, my local hobby shop thanked me for going there for years. They told me that I am one of the reasons they are still in business. There are quite a few well established train stores close to me but this one is my favorite and SCVRR's favorite as well.

My favorite is the roundhouse in North Hollywood. Not the closest to me but definitely one of my favorites: Here are my favorites:

The Roundhouse-North Hollywood
Original Whistle Stop- One block down from my Pasadena office
Allied Trains- Westside, a shadow of it's former self.
Arnies Trains-Westminster

I avoid Train Shack in Burbank at all cost. Great stuff but the worst customer service in town.

The Roundhouse does and so does Arnies though Arnie's tends to sell newer used trains. Allied and Whistlestop are more of your "high end shops" that only sell the the more expensive stuff. I know pretty boring. I am thining out my collection is there something you are looking for Ben?

That is sad. Too many train shops are being replaced by online shopping. Online is great but it's no replacement for talking to real and experienced people who real know what they are talking about. My favorite local hobby store has been open in the same building for 60+ years and the only thing that has changed is the selection. The staff are all very experienced too. I prefer this kind of service to online shopping, even if the price is a little more expensive.

I agree Chessie! Alot of this online shopping crap is killing the local hobby shops! I lost 2 or 3 of them in the last 5 or 6 years where I live right now in New Hampshire, and sadly the state isn't all that big either!

When you add S & H to on line i find little difference in price and our shop will match

I feel it's the people who support the hobby are a dying breed. Computer games have taken over by younger generations. Every train show i go to very few under 50

you want used trains, contact this guy

you got a good point there. Im 36 and when I go to shows, I always seem to be among the younger railroaders. Keep in mind that we were the last generation to grow up on Tyco , Tyco being the reason alot of us got into the hobby. Then video games came out and kids no longer play outside, do anything creative and take on hobbies that require more than sitting in front of a screen. Sad to see but I am passing down the hobby to my nephews. They seem to really like it.

I will be on the lookout for you. Funny thing is that as close as the Whistle Stop is to me, I hardly go there but have bought some stuff from them recently.
