Well i've had a 4x8 board for a while now, 2 years now and i've made it everything that it can be. For all who have see my layout, you can remember i have a big locomotive facility. 2 shops, now 3...and a turntable! Well after completion of the tunrtable project tommorow i'm sad to say thats the last possible layout project! There is no more rrom anywhere to add a switch or build another shop , let me tell you something, I have on my 4x8 board.....17 switches!!! It's been fun on this layout but with all the covered up errors and sharp corners, comes a new layout. My parents finally decided to remodel our kitchen which was older than me...eh i'm only 16 anyways One of our contractors was really friendly and always around to give me a hand so I finally asked him if we paid him of course, could he get the boards and beams to make me a new layout, with my help of course. He was very happy and he said he would do it but after they finish the kitchen So seems everyday he's here i'm showing him what I want to add or ask him if he can do it. So my plan is to custom make a 5X10 board with legs on the outsides and middle for it to be leveled. This will allow hopefully a dual mainline, and my exsisting shops plus whatever else I want. So sometime in 2 weeks is when it should start it just depends on a lot of factors right now. I put my creative brain to use when i asked if he could cut holes where the inspection pits on my walthers 3 track shop is!! I'm literally going to make working inspection pits! So I can go under the table and work on the frames and what not of my engines, mainly unscrewing the gear plate covers but still actual inspection pits! I've got a huge list now of all the changes i'm gonna make. The only thing that will stay the same is the shop area and the turntable. Also mandatory that I keep a little town. Cant wait to start this project!! Who'd a thought that just weeks after finishing my layout i'd be able to build a new one. I still have headaches to clear such as buying '22 radiius corners and making a track plan which is really hard because the benchwork isn't built anytime soon yet.

Sounds cool! Good luck building a new layout. I just started rebuilding my layout not to long ago. Here is a link that could help you make the sides of the inspection pit. http://scalescenes.com/products/R002c This is the scalescenes inspection pit it is one of their free kits. You could probably use it as the side walls of the inspection pit.

Good luck!

Saying goodbye to a current layout and building a new layout is always an exciting time. You get to use all of the skills, techniques and tricks that you learned plus new ideas. Enjoy the planning stage and have fun building!

Hey Hyde,

How is the new layout coming? Are they still working on your kitchen? I can not imagine it taking too much longer for a couple guys to be doing that? I have put several in myself for people before returning to school for my degree.

Is the gent that is willing to help you a HO train modeler himself?

Hey sean, sorry i missed your question!! Kitchen will be done friday, they finished the tile, cabinets, granite, and most of the backsplash. Appliances go in friday and then thats a rap

And the guy helping me is a contractor, he used to colelct RC cars so he understands where i'm coming from. He has no relation to trains or model railroading. that doesn't matter from this stand point. He offered to build the benchwork for it. I will handle the rest, because i'm good at ballast and turf and or scenery so thats not hard for me He's a carpenter so to speak so he can build just about anything I want.

We cleared the space so were ready any day now. Hard part will be removing everything off the old layout. No buildings are glued down but a lot of track is nailed down and with scenery there ought to be a big mess It will hopefully start next week if all goes well.
