How can i tell a #4 from a #6 turn out and if i convert will i have enough room
I called the local hobby shop and asked if they have Peco "no but can order' they have Shinohara, are they any good.
Trucks are a mix of snap in and screw--should i convert to all screw. or just convert to those that derail
I also read get rid of plastic and convert to steel wheels as plastic picks up dirt
How do you move wheel on steel axil if found to be out of guage?
Adding weight to cars is controversial--some say "yes" others "no" The "nos" argue that rail road companies don't add weight to cars, they fix the wheel
so far things are running o k over the Y switch

Number 6's are more broader than #4's. Most steel wheel sets are one piece metal. Some cars like Tyco's are usually under-wieght.

A 34 is a shorter turnout with a much sharper radius away turn then the #6, and to this, a #6 is a much longer piece of trackwork then a #4.

I personally like the Peco stuff better myself, alittle more expensive, BUT worth every penny spent, and they are a VERY good operational turnout.

I would ONLY work on those that are giving you trouble. Fix what needs fixing, anything thats works well leave alone till the time should arise. In other words, don't try to fix, whats not broken!

I'm a toss up in that one, some plastic wheels are OK, BUT as long as they have METAL axles are they OK, the all plastic wheels and plastic axles are junk and will fail over time! BUT all metal wheels, on metal axles are best! If you go to clean any PLASTIC wheels, use alcohol, and DO use any Abrasives on them.....The scratches that the abrasive will leave will then triple the dirt that wheel collects!

Look at the wheels on the inside, one wheel will have metal to the metal axle, the other wheel will have a plastic insulator, if you firmly grab one wheel and give a slight twist and pull it will bring the wheel out on the axle, and if its to far out, push in while twisting will do the same the other direction. HOWEVER this can be over done! I do this only if the drivers are a fraction of a measuring line out of gauge, as if you go to much, it will set your truck a skew as one axle point will be longer then the other. Which won't allow the truck to "ride" the rails somewhat straight

If the car is light, and don't track well and you think that the wheels and trucks are set right, add alittle weight, NOT alot just alittle on each end at a time.

This is GREAT news! If it gives you trouble as alot of times Y switches do, I'd replace it with a Peco!
