I was watching the opening ceremonies tonight and couldn't help but get a bit of a tear in my eye as they played God Save the Queen, your anthem and our America/ My Country Tis of Thee. Hope you folks have a great time and enjoy the holiday, cousin!

I liked the representation of the industrial revolution the best, but I really thought they'd roll up the sod to find rails. No steam locos.
The ring forging effects were amazing. If I'd been in charge they would be flanged.

Ron,it was much better than I could have imagined, after all the problems they had beforehand, I hope for all concerned that the military presence is not needed and it ends as well as it started, regards the holiday, I live across the Thames from the stadium, but its still only about 5 miles as the crow flies away, traffic is going to be the big problem, what with the Olympic lanes,it makes our roads very narrow,i hope you enjoy as much as we will here, ken nelson,i was surprised that railways took a back seat, but with so much history, they chose what they thought was appropriate, and what was cost effective, ken

Ken:
Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) was a true highlight of the opening show! He's the English inheritor of Jacques Tati (Mr. Hulot)'s comedic style. What a national treasure!

I love Rowan for his Blackadder,my favourite scene is the end of the last series set in world war 1,sums up the waste and futility of war ken
