I came across this image of a Northshore Mining diesel, freshly painted. This is a railroad that serves the taconite mining industry of northeastern Minnesota- a perfect customer for an occasional maintenance visit to the Sioux Lake engine shop facilities on my layout. I really like the plain, yet bright color scheme- very refreshing to the poor souls who must deal with dreary winter weather up in Minne-SNOW-ta .
Anyway, I am passing thru (where else?) Wal Mart this morning and I spot a can of Rustoleum "Sail Blue" acrylic spray paint. I would like to ask you guys if this color appears to been a close enough match for the diesel colors.
Here is the diesel Image:

Here are some internet examples of Rustoleum Sail Blue paint in use:

And here is the sample swatch from Rustoleum:

Any feedback- or alternate paint source suggestions- will be greatly appreciated.
(Yeah, you might ask: Why doesn't he just buy a can and test it out? Because asking for other eyes to give me a second opinion is very helpful to me!)

Hey take the photo with you to paint store and match it up that way. Looks close to me. The lighting is what messes with my eyes. I used to be a painter by trade ok. Try sherwin williams or any place that sells paint . Steve

Agreed, it's impossible to tell from photos on the web, including the one of the loco. When I used to do color matching I'd make chips on white styrene and compare them under a 100% white fluorescent lamp.
Obviously for modeling purposes the photo will have to be good enough. It doesn't look too far from Conrail blue, maybe a little lighter. Judging from the sample photos, I'd have to guess that the Sail Blue has less white in it.
The good thing about air brushing is you're not dependent on manufacturer's colors, since you can mix to your heart's content.

It looks like a Rock Island blue. The chair looks darker and the bright part of the rim looks close, not sure about the color sample. The loco is really in a bright light situation and will look different in normal light..
