A Penn line caboose, Chicago & Eastern Illionis. One of the odd ones. There was one year 1955, when Penn Line used fleischmenn couplers and trucks on there cars. There is a catalog full of photos of there cars and train sets with Fleischmann couplers on them.
I have a penn line trailer flat car with them on also. It is not shown here . It has its own topic.

Hello ! Lehigh Valley Railroad.
* If you have 25 passenger cars why are you not running them. Central Valley trucks allowed them to run to. That is why they were put on the cars. If they say Penn line on the bottom post photos of them here. You probably, with 25 of them, have other road names as well as these. They, all of them would be nice to see. Could you share photos of them and post them here.
* They and very similar ones were made by HObbyline, Penn Line, Varney, and life like. In both standard cresatory heavy weight style, and streamline style.
* All can find a place here in one of the forum topics. Many people here would love to see them.
* I have run out of photos for now, need somemore myself. I am happy that I was allowed to get all posted in groups in a row together. Thanks Buss.

They say Penn Line on the bottom. All repainted dark green and rubber stamp lettered for a home road, some right over old decals and stuff. Trucks are worth about $15 a pair, cars seem to have little to no value.

* I have seen that a lot. Back in the days of inexpensive decals, private roads were common. Now to repaint and letter a 5 passenger car set. stripping, painting, and lettering can cost $40. If you can find decal set for $5. each. you always need a extra set for the occasional oppps. And this doesn't count the cost of a spray gun and compressor. I still would like to do a set of Pennsy streamliners is silver and black decals. Can't find black passenger car decals anymore since Walters stopped making them.

Here's a Hinde and Dauch on an ATSF flatcar, not Monon. Unfortunately, one of the trucks is exhibiting zinc rot, and has broken. The other appears fine.

The rot happens. Just replace with another set of trucks. That is one of the reasons I go to train shows and buy cheep cars for 2 or 3 dollars. For parts. I'll buy a 3 for 10 deal and get old cars missing hatches and broken off foot ladders. The ones I get have trucks I am looking for, remaining hatches, sliding doors, door slides, roof walks, couplers, couplers covers, other parts. Any one you can't buy for $2.

Bob They look like mantua -tyco cars but have the old mantua metal bottom, different paint, and say Penn Line. all dont have penn line trucks. You can see that they fall apart.

Nelson. No frame on this F7. It is a lot alike to a Varney drive where front and rear truck where the trucks fasten to the body . The gas tank is a separate casting that clips into body also. The tank seems to be on it way out.

Decals: Sigh. Another thing like kits and parts that I never thought we would ever have to do without. It's so weird that we went so quickly from the full-color Paint Shop features in MR to the disappearance of Champ and Herald King and the downscaling of Microscale. Anybody else miss the Champ private roadname sets? What a great idea that was.

***About Penn-Line:
** If you go to the HOseeker site listed in our Tyco Forum, or to the direct link to Penn-Line trains to HOseeker in the previous post, You can view their early catalogs. Before 1955 you can only find Locomotives. Now in the 1955 catalog you see a line of cars, both Passenger and freight. The only car made be Penn-Line in this catalog are the flat cars and the caboose. If you look closely you will see a different type of coupler used on all these cars. The Passenger cars, Reefer, box car, gondola, and the different type of coupler are all made in Western Germany by Fleischmann. This is how Penn-Line got into the train set business. In the following years Penn-Line made more of their own cars. Adding more each year. When the NMRA ( National Model Railroad Association) designed and released their choice of a new common type HO coupler for American HO products, Penn-Line changed to this type coupler. Fleischmann adopted this type coupler also, on the cars they supplied to Penn-Line. This car be seen by longer time modelers having Penn-Line cars. Penn-Line phased out the use of Fleischmann cars before 1960 as the catalogs show HObbyline, Varney type passenger cars. These were provided by Varney to extend the Penn-Line line. Also A Mantua style box car is seen in the Penn-Line line in Great Northern, Union Pacific, D&RGW cookie box, NH, MP eagle with yellow door, WP feather, and Main Central. Mantua also provided gondolas in PRR, Wabash, B&O, and Monon. Some of these cars can be recognized by different lettering, coloring, and numbering. Some have, like all the passenger cars of the Varney type, the Penn-Line logo on the car bottom. Others don,t. Some came with a black sticker with white lettering of the Penn-Line logo on their bottom. Collecting these cars can be challenging. You may think you have a Penn-Line, and only have a Mantua.

*** in 1957 American Hobby Center in their catalog shown 2 Penn Line train sets for sale back then. In each a flat car with trailer load came with the set. Also include was a second trailer which was different, a unloading ramp, and a Ford tilt cab tractor to unload the flat car, and pull them around the streets of the train layout. It seemed that each set had the Monnon and the Hinde & Dauch trailers. Making a nice addition to these train sets.

I've got some Penn Line stuff, too. It's a lot of 4 Pennsylvania coaches. They're kinda stiff, though, so pretty much all my trains struggle to pull them.

I have a couple of shorty full dome shells apparently produced by Penn Line:
The one on the left sadly fell victim to a bit of clumsiness on my part while I was wearing shoes, and so it has a crack in the roof. At least it will mostly be hidden when I paint them.
They're nice pieces. A lot of model dome cars I've seen (including the other two I own, one of which is an O.K. models shorty and IDK who made the other) mold the top of the dome as though it has windows, when on the real deal the top was solid roof.
