So, I didn't want to spend $100 on a power truck, but I needed a small, cheap locomotive that go around really tight curves. So, an HO critter shell + an Atlas locomotive truck + a New Bright RC car motor + a lot of hot glue = a Junk Box Critter. She her in action, as well as an explanation of how I built her in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7DALeoSBRA&feature=youtu.be

What type truck is that? Looks to be an Athearn with a motor glued to it for power!
NICE! I bet that will run pretty good with some weight added!

EM-1, it's an Atlas power truck with a New Bright motor glued to it. The whole assembly fits right into an old critter shell I had, and does fairly well at low speeds.

I would sugest you to have a few pictures of that to post along with your video as it is a really good posting on how you done that!
The Atlas truck, is it a SD type truck or 3 axle truck, it looks to be! VERY interesting!

Em-1, there's two still photographs at the very end of the video. One shows the motorized truck without the shell (which is a 4 wheel truck by the way) and one which shows the unit with the shell attached.

It's a Roco truck from older yellow box Atlas.
Andrew, if you have a hobby store near you that caters to the RC crowd, small silicone fuel line tubing makes a great shaft coupling for projects like that, and it's flexible and stays that way forever. I use it to replace the rubber couplings in rubber band units, too.

Weekend:
I endorse that suggestion about the silicone RC fuel line tubing- it has smoothed out the crankshaft noise issue and vibration on my Athearn Rotary Snow Plow powering project- see the images in my last post on that one, so far.
Nelson told me about inexpensive can motors from Howard Moseley (Hobbytown of Boston) on e-bay. I have used two of them so far and they are not only inexpensive, but respond very well at low speeds.
I think the manufacturer is Igarashi or Iragashi, but the price is so low, it's almost petty theft!
Look on eBay under Hobbytown of Boston can motors for HO scale under the model railroading sub-category or ask Nelson for the direct link.

Thanks guys, I think I will be looking up some of theses suggestions. Glad y'all liked the bash, I hope to share more with you all in the near future. I've got a couple underway right now.

Great job at kitbashing! I see you have an ugly green trolley like the one I tried to give away. Do you have plans for it? I decided to slice and dice my trolley to make something different, an express motor.
I have the shell done, but not painted. I may need advice on motorizing it. I have a power truck and a little motor, but will need to make a new chassis.

Bruce,
I'm still working on that one. I haven't quite figured out how to motorize it, but I do have a few ideas up my sleeve. I'll let you know if I find something that works.

Ron, all I have is this expired auction link. He hasn't re-listed them since April. I hope he didn't sell out.

Nels:
In hindsight, I should have bought more than the 4 that I did get. As "Bearbon", the listed seller name on E-Bay, he has no other current offerings listed, either.

The auction ended when he still had at least 7 left, and he just had those universal sets for 2mm shafts made up, and he still has those on his web page.

Hopefully he's just taking a break.
