with money i got from my birthday i went to my favorite train store and bought a new mantua classics SP 4-6-2 with a smoke unit!! It was bought by a guy and not used once!! the roundhouse train store got it somehow and it sat in the display cases for a few weeks till it caught my eye and i knew i'd buy it! For $100 is was a great deal!! A smoker too!! The mantua smoke units work very well and they run off bachmann smoke oil i had! The steamer also has an amazing tender light which is directional! I also bought a life-like teakettle for $30 new! I like the teakettle better than the docksider, its a better runner! I love both of my new locos!! Im approaching the final locos on my list! my collection has increased dramatically in the last 4 years!! after i get the mantua 4-6-0 dixiebell, GN big six, bachmann 2-8-2 and Roundhouse 2-8-0 daylight from my favorite train store that'll be it for a little while. I've completly run out of room both in and AROUND my shop buildings and my 3 level storage racks!
here's my new excursion beauty!! she was smokin a little
last photo of #2486 in action!
here;s my new teakettle #25! i like it! good price for a goo runner!

Glad to see your collection growing Hyde. Great little pieces and I considered getting that 0-4-0 last time I was at the Roundhouse. Glad that you ended up getting it. The only problem I am encountering is finding the space necessary for my collection of models (have hundreds of them) and trains.
If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right.

* A problum we all face. I have seen collections in homes with train rooms in photos here and in visits. Some have wall shelves, displaying treasured items. Some do as I and keep them in boxes on shelves, well labled. My way saves alot of dusting and cleaning, but the only time you see them is when you take them out to run or display on the layout. Shelves and cabinets can be made or gotten with sliding glass door fronts to keep them somewhat clean. Space at home is always a issue, and in demand. I have at least 40 boxes fill with trays on train cars. You cant see them unless you remove some to run. Just the work needed to keep your locomotives in clean good condition, is alot of work. I am not being a prude just saying it like it is. toptrain

I have 2, the one shown above I plan to make a 2-4-2, took her out of service months ago, and she's gotten a new paint scheme, new custom oil bunker, and motor wiring work. I have another I got in an ebay lot that had all cracked gears. I've rebuilt he drive wheel gears but need replacements for the rest. Will run someday. In the mean time there is a 3rd one at the train store in which I got these above engines from that I do plan to get

Try to get a New One by Silvine. Way better! I have one. It's all die cast and has brass gearing. Bulletproof.
