i posted a previous topic about the possibility of me getting a mantua 2-8-2 camelback, well i got a chance today when we had free time to go down to the roundhouse. So i immediatly walked in the door of the store and told the worker gaby to open the display case so i could get it. They told me to do everything my self, take out the engine test it and of course pay for it, they've known me forever and know i have experience rebuildign and maintaining engines. It ran well when tested but now that she's in my care she's been cleaned lubed completly and now can run slow fast and smooth. Turns out it was Reading railroad not CNJ oh well i still love it and the headlight is bright!! I bought it for $50. I also bought 2 tyco plymouth switchers for $5 each!! a Santa fe version and a silver one. they both didnt run but i have already took them both apart and retuned the silver one and it runs great now with newly cleaned wheels lubricated parts and wiring work, her headlight is bright as well. I have not been able to complete the Santa fe version because of wheel problems but the motor runs well and its all lubricated but im still fiddling with the gears, i will give both these switchers a respray of silver paint but keep the original red on the santa fe version. What a great day!
heres #1608 on the move!
here's another view of my beautiful mantua camelback
like i said here's my silver tyco plymouth switcher that i made repairs on and now she runs great.
and here's the santa fe version still disassembled but i'll finish her tommorow before i go on a week long railroad spring break trip up north
Let me know what ya guys think!

Ah you beat me to it. LOL I was wondering if you got your engines this weekend my friend since Allan called me while I was in Vegas to let me know that he had received some parts that I had ordered. It looks great and the price is great.

I love their consignment stuff. I found a GP-9 and and SD-40t-2 last time I was there for a fantastic price. Going to be there this weekend looking for some more cheap diesels (preferably athearn) that I can wrench on.

If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right.

Thank you! I hope I get all 4 home with me cause it's the best place they could go since all I do is work on, rebuild, and maintain locos and so they call all stay together. Especially mantuas, the last 3 locos I have bought with the exception of a 4-8-4 daylight have been mantuas. I've bought a big six, booster and now camelback in the last 2 months! I doubt anyone will take the last 2 locos at the train store cause theyve sat there since December so they will most likely have to wait for me to rescue them I would've bought the GN shifter from the collection sooner but back in December I tested it at the shop and it ran poorly but now that I can easily do the needed work to it I'm ready to buy it question is which ofthe last 2 will I get first? The dixiebell or the 0-6-0 shifter. The shifters cheaper so I guess she's first

Nope, I knew you had your heart set on getting it and I wouldn't do that to you my friend. I am an Athearn Diesel guy so when I go there, that is usually what I get since they have tons of engines. I hope they still have a c-44 I saw there last time. I already have it but it was a great price. Hope its still there.

oh okay good thank you. 90% of my diesels are athearn and i got almost all at the roundhouse. Seems no one wants these old mantuas and i love them so it fits perfect like i said the GN big six needs work the dixiebell 4-6-0 i assume needs maintenance but i would rebuild it if i had to. I'm all for mantuas. once i buy all roundhouses mantuas and low price steamers i'll go back to diesels.

Old Tyco Brown box. Really heavy and a bit noisy but a very strong puller. Don't have a photo of it but have 6 other pacifics and this is the only duplicate I have.

I love that blue pacific!!!! That particular engine is high on my want list. If I could spray bomb well, I would repaint my hudson I just picked up to look like that. I will find one of those B&O Blue comets eventualy. I am also a huge Reading fan, love the camelbacks, Mantuas later model 0-6-0 camelback in Reading is one of my favorites as well. Mike

I've seen that same exact loco but with the wheels painted blue (as in factory paint) which means it's an older model. I see it at every train show I go to and it supposedly runs. The price for it at the show is $55. I've also seen a Union Pacific 4-6-2 from Tyco/Mantua from the same guy for $10 less and it supposedly runs too. I believe the seller said he would go as low as $30 or so. Which one should I go buy at the next train show I see them at? I'm asking because I really do want one of those things eventually and they're both in really good condition in terms of how they look.

The blue one depends on the condition of the finish in my book, most i see have lots of chiped paint on the tender and plastic cab. If they are really nice like that one, they are usualy much more expensive. now if it was just grungy dirty but not all chipped up, I would buy the blue one all day long for $30. No real differance in the Mantua vs Mantua/Tyco, just different era's of production. Im not a big UP fan so the blue one wins in my book. Mike

The one I keep seeing at the train show has blue paint on the wheels themselves and I keep seeing them without blue paint on the wheels. Does that mean it's the rare(?) T212-B model made in 1960 and 1961? Does anybody know at all?
