Stopped by one of the hobby shops I frequent down in Indianapolis and was scouring thru the box of basket case engines, Found a Mantua Hudson with mangled valve gear, a busted cross head and missing draw bar. But the rest was complete, tender(NYC markings) in good shape otherwise. Scored it for $5! I had a replacement crosshead at home, straightened the valve gear out. Runs good for the non power drive version. Still need a handrail for the firemans side of the boiler and a draw bar. There is also the remains of a Mikado I may go back for. The 2-8-2 was the only other mantua, rest was bachman and life like junk diesels. Only other steam was an old John english pacific, no valve gear, no trailing truck. Its always pot luck at that shop as to what junkers have come in. I was suprised to get it that cheap, guy at the counter wanted to know what I would give for it, I told him no more than a 20 doller bill. He said how about $5? I said deal!! I am one of thier shop mechanics, so I do get good deals from time to time. Thier prices are always awsome though! Mike

Not too bad, Cadet. Especially since it actually runs. I love it when I get awesome deals like that for operating H0 scale locomotives.
