Thought I'd start this, as I just bought 3 lots of engines off Ebay, and got some EMD's that are at the FAR ends of the size spectrum. So this post idea just sort of came to me What would be cool is if you can post engines by the same maker ( EMD, Alco, Baldwin, etc ), from the biggest you got to the smallest you got. Steam or Diesel, doesn't matter. If you don't have matching makers, but just have a large and small pair, post them anyway. So, here we go!

Specs, DD40 -
Length 98 ft 5 in (30 m) Width 10 ft 4 in (3.15 m) Height cab roof: 14 ft 11.375 in (4.56 m) overall: 16 ft 4 in (4.98 m) Locomotive weight 521,980lb (261 tons) Fuel capacity 8,230 US gallons (31,154 L) Prime mover 2 × EMD 645E3A Aspiration turbocharged Cylinders V16 Power output 6600 traction hp (4,900 kW)
Specs, Model 40 -
Build date April 1940 – April 1943 Total produced 11 AAR wheel arr. B Locomotive weight 84,000 lb (38.1 t) Fuel type Diesel Prime mover (2) Detroit Diesel 6-71 Engine type 2-stroke Diesel Cylinders 6 (2) Transmission DC generator, DC traction motors Power output 300 hp (224 kW)

A bit of a crossover: Steam v. Diesel; Mainline v. Terminal; Large v. Independent builder in both prototype and scale...

AHM / Rivarossi UP 4-8-8-4 Big Boy v. Penn Line Davenport Whitcomb.
I think I need to modify a lineside signal into a NHRA tree for this shot!
Or if you prefer to ask the whimsical, such as "How many ___ does it take?"...

My biggest engine to date, a Y3B in Pennsy colors, Proto 2000

Not sure of specs other than it really pulls and ultra quiet.
My smallest, a Ken Kidder Plantation

Not even sure if it is a real prototype, just a unique engine.

Ok, reviving this thread (because I can ), while these are not even of the same maker and genre, but what they DO have in common is they are blue and Conrail! LOL. I thought it'd be a rather unique combination with these two.

Boy, you don't see the DD40 in B&O often ( I DID get a shell off Ebay this past year, so I can switch out my Burlington for that when I want to ), nor the centercab in B&O. Nice pair of dinosaur inhalers!

Jerry, Believe it or not, I've got 4 of them! (well HAD 4 of them!) I traded one, the #8500 for a GM Demo, to have a B&O patch added to the cab for #8500, as I know the B&O did not have them, BUT they're to big, not to like them!
As for the center cab, I have 2 of them as well, (4 actually) 2 in B&O #19 and #20. Then I have Western Maryland #75 and #76!
Just couldn't help myself for the cost of them!
