At the York PA toy show, I found 3 BN Tyco piggybacks loose, $2.50 each, and one turns out to be orange underneath the paint. Wasn't repainted, looks factory to me. Odd to find it.

Anyone else found an orange shell with BN on it?

That's cool, Jerry! I have 10 BN trailers and I've not looked, but I'm certain none of mine are like that....

I've had a few like that. I think in the 80's the vast majority were cast orange (almost a "sherbet") for UP use, but as you see, they'd grab what was around for paint.
Also of note, not all UP piggybacks were painted. Some had nice orange paint, with deep red lettering treated to smart black outlines. The later ones were that "sherbet" plastic stamped only with red lettering. I've never found a cheapened BN trailer though.
This is all detailed in my old Trailer Jet / piggyback guide.
Nice find! Part of the fun of collecting, part of what makes mass production human at its base.

My BN and UP trailers were white casted bodies. Same with my ATSF and Sealand Trailers.

| All of my four BN trailers are standard white. You are lucky to find BN trailers, last train show I attended I found four piggyback loaders but only a single loose sea-land container.

Yes, I was. Which was why I snapped them up for 2.50 each. I probably would have bought UP or Sealand if they'd had those for that price, but finding 3 BN's was a good day no matter what !
