I'll kick this off, since everyone else is still losing an hour of sleep . My pair come from the great land of (west) Germany, circa post-war era. A pair of Fleischmann New Haven FA diesels, which I picked up Monday through a Craigslist listing, still haven't tried to power them yet. But in nice shape.

They're all metal, and made around 1960. Typical examples are being listed on Ebay for over $200 each, I got one heck of a deal as the seller had no idea what he had ( and I had no idea, as his posted photo was so fuzzy, it was hard to make out anything ). But I'm happy with the deal I got

my newest train show find a bachmann 4-8-4 daylight for $75!! needed the usual work you'd expect, heavy wheel cleaning, lubrication, and dusting off. Now she runs fantastic even on my 4x8

Here's a Mantua Mikado I found that needed work. It was missing 2 sets of axel bearings and needed a repaint. This is the almost finished project. I'm waiting on a can motor from Yardbird, and the steam chest needs to be painted. I DCC'ed the open frame motor which to my surprise ran well, but it is crying for a modern can motor. I also added a reverse light to the tender.

My contribution this week is this little Bachmann Gandy Dancer. I bought it back when I was probably in 9th grade or so. It had been in storage for quite a long time until I got back into trains when my son was born. It didn't work until tonight. I remember it never working very well which I put down to poor craftsmanship of the unit itself in combination with my horrible track work when I was younger. At some point early on it ceased to move at all. I did a through inspection tonight with the intention of finally getting it running and discovered that there was a tiny piece of ballast in the open gears on the bottom. I picked it out and it runs like a champ now, just not up the 4% grade!

Her's my entry. I won this clear C-Liner demonstrator shell for a song on Saturday, and it arrived yesterday. I put it on one of the 1964 era matching clear chassis I had, and I think it's all kinds of awesome. I have visions of Tony's disco light F7 dancing in my head now... oh, the possibilities.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

It was a sales tool to show off the new drive. Haven't you seen the clear Tyco F7's?

Not sure what that has to do with trains, but since you mentioned it, this is what transparency and a real vetting process looks like, unlike the cult of personality that got us the Golf Course Messiah.

This is the second one I've seen. I posted the FM shell like this many years ago. I have never seen the clear chassis.

AF, here's the ad from 1963 showing the clear chassis. That's even better, since it's the year I was born. I have at least 2 of them that I got cheap at a show and rehabbed. Rivarossi made some with clear chassis before this with their ball bearing motor, probably toward the end of their association with Lionel. This isn't a RR shell, tho.

Ahh, that is a NICE piece, NP. Wow. I've been searching for those, but still haven't found one yet on Feepay. I've bought some translucent shells to use for my ghost train, but haven't yet found a clear shell ( well, a couple of years ago I did, but got outbid ). Haven't seen one at a train show yet, either. Thanks for posting that, I hope to add one to my collection one day.

Jerry, it's true that they don't show up very often, so I really lucked out. I paid under $12, and I've seen them go for $30 or $40, so I don't know why that happened. I had entered a much higher bid, so maybe too many people were out enjoying the warm weather, lol. There were a quite a few that showed up about 2 years ago, and from different sellers... who knows why. I thought I'd be able to nab one but the bidding always got ridiculous, and then they were gone.
The only defect is that the front of the hole for one of the square chassis pins is missing on the RH side, which is minor. I've seen ones with bad cracks in them go for more. The bottom of the chassis was sprayed flat black, and I was thinking it would be cool to strip it and make it completely see-thru. I'm not sure Chameleon would take it off, tho, and that's the strongest stuff for plastic. I'd never chance it in brake fluid or Pine-Sol.
