My LOTW is a Varney kit I just picked up on my birthday yesterday at an antique show, paid $75 for it, seems complete, I've seen them sell higher on Ebay without the box, so probably didn't get burnt. The lady had a Tyco Prairie 2-8-0 she wanted $75 for as well, still in shrink-wrapped box. Wasn't sure if that was high or not. Didnt' get it. Anyway, here's Casey -

Doesn't look like any zinc pest on the drive wheels, that I see. Hope to get this one together and operating this year, I had a partial kit already, but no drive wheel assembly nor motor. Now I have the complete unit, with a box even.

Here is my loco of the week. As mentioned in the Athearn Section of this forum, this engine was sold to me for 8 dollars. The previous owner said that he could never get it to run. Turns out, the engine was missing the driveshafts. This engine is quite unique and has plenty of detail parts. I even thought it was a RTR model at first instead of standard Blue Box. It was a steal for 8 bucks.

Hey Guys:
Mike's rock for sure. Ray (Marinnacio) modded one to be very G&D-ish. Always liked it. Had hoped he'd be willing to trade one day. He may have even LotW'd it years ago when he still posted stuff on the forum. He still drops by but doesn't post, but perhaps mentioing that project might get him to post it...

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Nice Redblock engine, Ray. I custom-painted the Chicago version nearly 20 years ago, it was the very first loco I ever attempted. I kept it mostly stock at the time and basically stripped the pre-painted logos and roadnumbers. About 10 years later I repainted the rest "around" the decals, weathered, updated, and superdetailed it. While I think yours is a later predecorated version (Athearn did eventually run a couple of the cities, but not Chicago as it turns out), it looks like yours was detailed as well, so 8 bucks really WAS a steal!

Great looking Loco Tony. Yes it definitely appears to be the factory paint on the loco. At first the details made me think it was a RTR model but definitely blue box. I put in some axles and off it went. A total investment of less than 20 bucks.
