Hello fellow forum participants -- I'm joining 'cause (as a nostalgic boomer) I just re-acquired the equivalent engine, three cars, power-pack and track from my first train--1965's Pacemaker East PRR freight set. I've managed to get the engine functional and have refurbished most of the fiddly bits missing from the cars. In a bit 'll be heading over to the maintenance forum for tips on cleaning & maintaining the engine, and to the trader forum to see if I can locate a Tyco PRR bobber caboose to complete the set. But I'm not just here soak up knowledge and source parts; the process of buying the set has got me fired up about building an actual layout, and I'm finding this site (and HO Seeker, and the Red Box era site) a real inspiration. Thanks in advance to all the other enthusiasts for making this forum a go-to destination for like-minded hobbyists.

Thanks, folks!

Per Mytyco's suggestion, I'm test-posting a couple shots of my cabooseless* T6412A Pacemaker East on the oval. Also my dream book from the era, "An HO Railroad that Grows". I spent hours pouring over it as a kid. Nostalgia heaven.

*I've got a thread in the Trader forum looking for a Tyco 4-Wheel/bobber in PRR livery. If any of you have one to sell/trade, head on over there & let me know...

I have to agree, you just fall in love and look for more when you get started with getting and receiving stuff that are made by Tyco. And in any other case that you would get something that is not at par with something else, you just have to make do with what you would get and be contented with it.

What a real inspiration if you ask me as they truly are marvelous pieces.

Rick,

Welcome to the club, fellow modeler! I also was smitten by Linn Wescott's HO Railroad That Grows back in the early 60s, and built my first layout from that very book. Just recently, I found a copy in very good condition at the Tampa Great Train Show last Christmas and picked it up for nostalgia. One other source of enlightenment back then was Boy's Life magazine, as I was a cub, then a boy scout. They had many articles on building layouts and features on modeling methods back then, as well.

Some of the guys on this forum are very good resources for information and, as you get acquainted, a pretty nice bunch of people in general.

Don't be a stranger!
