Im posting for my COTW a somewhat HTF, Chessie System Bay Window caboose which was custom painted from a (I'm assuming) a very short lived manufacturer. It was painted and decaled by a company called Bee-Bee. I first heard of them in an old issue of Model Railroader back in the late 80s. They had a small advertisement for these near the front of the magazine for one or two issues and never to be heard of again until eBay. I've only found one other model they ran that was custom painted and it was a Rio Grande Wide Vision caboose. I would like to know alittle more about the 'Bee-Bee" line so if anyone has any "tid-bits" of info please fill us in. It appears they used Athearn equipment as most custom painting companies did.

A recent trade from North of the Border. One I've been wanting for some time. Its a MDC kit I think. Kadee #5's and the light weathering were a PLUS!!

Neat bright boxcar Micro. If Ever anyone comes across a boxcar with Autolite spark plugs I will take it in a heartbeat. I have never seen one though.

My car of the week is a today-find, after I found out about the red-topped purina cars, I've been watching, today I found one at the Timonium show, I paid $10, and it will join my 20+ PUrina car consist now.

I paid $2 from the hobby dealer because he thought it was a crude attempt at detailing it. I took it as genuine collector fodder to join the ranks of my other HERSHEY'S reefers.
While it may look crummy, I gotta hand it to the artist. Better something attempted than a solid paint job.
The Baby Ruth cars include TYCO... metal MANTUA (red, below the mid-column TYCO), Train Miniature, Athearn...
The bottom left HERSHEY ice-bunker is a steel-side Train Miniature.
The TYCO HERSHEY'S, only two are identical, so... some markings are omitted, some cars are "Made In Hong Kong" while others are "Made In U.S."
The bottom right Purina car is a wooden/paperside LACONIA kit.
I bought 15 of these built-up, pre-1960's reefers at $6 apiece... some of them are "so choice!" Varney, earliest Athearn, Laconia... on and on. I have 253 reefers, 219 are brine/ice bunker while 34 are mechanical.
It's a SAFE REEFER Addiction!

I actually thought about it....the inspiration was from one of my old club members who kitbashed an SW-7 onto a DD-35 chassis, one end of the "extra long" platform was a BBQ and the other end had a pool!
just me Ray... and just because I have Tyco doesn't mean I am not a model railroader

Ben cut the "keel" off a beat up Tyco 3 dome tanker and glue it under there before it looks like it eats the typical North American diet and sags in the belly like, well you get the idea...

If you have a look on the bottom of a Tyco 3 dome tanker (Like the Coke one) you'll see a very heavy "keel" running the length of it underneath. Seriously you're not familiar with this? Tony (Gic) included a whole paragraph on this in his site discussion on those things. Anyway cutting it away and using it a a brace on the underside of your caboose would look somewhat sensible.. course how the hell you'd come up with an explanation for two cupola's who knows???

Try this:
It's already been invented.
But, it gives me an idea for a new thread.

* It looks more like a inspection, or work crew car than a caboose. A lot of wasted seats for a caboose. Maybe a passenger car for backwoods divisions. frank

This car is/was an early form of "dome/observation car" without an upper row of seats.
It could have inspired the patents to building cabooses and dome cars. Sort of a reverse technology of inventions.

Back to more 'traditional' cars, I just got this set of Pennsylvania 'Senator' cars. They are by Model Power and have full interiors. I don't know when Model Power made these, but I think they are an extremely nice car.

| I have a full set of thoses with the Diner, Coach, Observation (visa dome) and combine. Mine are marked a Triang. They are HO and not OO like I think some of Triang's stuff was (might be confusing them with Marklin on that point). Mine have gray undercarriages though. They are nice looking, slightly shorter than many passenger cars so they work well and look better on 18r track and track well. Only issue I have is that they are a little on the light side. Had to add some weight to mine. That constant looks great behind the matching Athearn ABBA set.
