guess I'll start this one. Got this car for a quarter at a swap meet, was missing trucks and the caboose when I got it. course now that I think of it I don't think I have a single car that was built or bought as-is!
just me Ray... and just because I have Tyco doesn't mean I am not a model railroader

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

My entry of Car Of The Week is a Superior Transportation System Inc. Demonstrator 86' 8-Door boxcar leased to WCRC (Wisconsin Central Railroad Company?) by Athearn.
(I'm partial to demonstrator rolling stock pre-1980's)

There are a great many of those 89-footers out there still. And you like demo cars? Heh... I bought an old ACF demo 4-bay covered hopper, lettered as "ACF Conditionaire", on Friday for about 2 bucks. It's an N-scale bachmann. I do both N and HO. I'd post a picture, but my camera has the dead and my battery charger has the missing.
Alright, my turn for COTW. Rather, eight C'sOTW. As with the above covered hopper, I bought these cars at a "warehouse sale" (the owner of a nearby train store had filled up a vacant storefront two doors down with about 200 flats of old, broken HO and O for unreasonably low prices) on Friday. I got a little overexcited when I saw a flat full of a whole crapload of longer gondolas, something that I've been wanting more of for some time, and in my infinite stupidity, I did not buy one or two but rather all eight of them. I did the math, and with all three discounts I got, they were approx. $1.16 apiece, so not that big a blow to the wallet. So I come home with a whole bunch of stuff, exciting stuff, which will be on LOTW and AOTW pages soon, including seven identical Athearn Blue-Box 50' gondolas and one newer Bethlehem Steel 56' mill gondola. Mind you, every one was broken in some way. Of the seven, five are now reparable - two are lost causes. They are:
> B&O 36418, all set up with new axles and details, just awaiting kadees. > N&W 97750, with new trucks to replace beat-up bettendorfs, new axles, and details, needs kadees. > C&EI 82005, a particular treat, same shape as B&O > Two identical EL gons, one much older than the other with lots of rust and less crisp lettering. Both were #15487, but I carefully turned the '8' into a '3' with a black sharpie on the older one so they're both good now. Same shape as B&O. > Michigan Central #350623. Lost cause, no coupler boxes even on it, totally different molded plastic chassis, needs trucks too. Bleh. > CB&Q #83116. I destroyed it. Overtightened a truck screw and snapped the little post it screws into right off. If I epoxy the coupler plate to the frame to hold the coupler in, epoxy the weight to the body, epoxy the post back in its place, epoxy the frame onto the weight, and replace the couplers again, it'll work, but it will be just one lump of plastic and epoxy that will NEVER come apart again. > MEC #1115 is the 56' mill gon. It was put together all wrong and looked absolutely horrific. Took it all apart, flipped stuff around, put it back together, new trucks, searched for screws, new couplers, searched for screws, searched for screws again, threw screws all over the floor, put it all together, detailed it, and made a pipe load for it out of black straws a kind waitress gave me last July. Now a top-of-the-line car in my fleet.
I would have a picture, but as I said, my camera has the dead and I don't know how to get pictures out of my phone once they're in there. (I'm 13, I am not a dinosaur, I just don't know about my new phone's camera, ok?)

Oh, and that brings the total to NINE identical 50' gons. A SOU and a SOO (last owner weathered it) round out the figure. An ATSF 50' box came with the new gons, too... can't wait to find a truck to match the ONE bettendorf it already has...
