Went to the Train Show in Springfield , MA today. If anyone thinks the hobby is dead or dying they need to go to this show. 4 Big buildings and 25,000 people will attend over this weekend.

Very Nice finds, PT!! Something I've never seen before is the red SF Shock Control box car in the top pic.

Yes, I am going to have to take them out of the box and see if they are both Tyco. T he only reason I bought them is because of the color variation.

I had one of the darker ones back in the 70s and I know they vary in color shades. I've since replaced it.. Since I'm not familiar with all of Tyco's products, the red may very well be Tyco.

Wow, that is a LOT of people! We have the Cow Palace at the Timonium, MD show ( next weekend ), it is huge, but not that big. Wow.

...seeing different shades of red!? Filled stirrups leave no question: it's definitely a Tyco. Same road# and data decor is another clue.

Looks to be the same shade as the 2nd version ATSF 50' boxcar. The earlier Mantua/Tyco 40' cars also used a lighter shade than the common maroon, but it had full decor (including black "DF" and "A Smoother Ride" slogans) and I don't think it was quite so vivid a hue. Anyway the one you found is a sharp car and a nice find. I'll have to keep a lookout for that one.
