Hello world! Just found this site yesterday and thought it would be a nice forum to join. I'd never heard of a model railroad forum based on CHEAP trains. Shelves of brass replicas and $400 locomotives that can't be touched aren't my schtick. I mostly just buy old stuff, cheap stuff, and muck with it until it works. I hope I don't get lynched, though, for my collection is an oddball assortment of Tyco, Bachmann, AHM, IHC, Athearn, the occasional Broadway Limited that came as a gift, and whatever rolling stock I can get my hands on; not just Tyco. Also, I do something that I bet a lot of people would never try - whenever I get something hideously un-prototypical and not very valuable, I bring in the Sharpies and patch it up. My reporting mark CRCX (my initials) now has several locomotives and more than a dozen freight cars. Anyways, I'm looking forward to sharing questions and projects, and hopefully answering questions for others as well.
Oh, BTW, I for the most part model in: > PRR, 1940's-1950's > ATSF/SP/BN, 1970's > RDG/CR, 1970's > CSX/NS/CR, 1990's > Small Industrial operations, since I love my half-dozen critters, oddball cars, and HOn30 set. And there's still other stuff that just doesn't fit. I am eclectic, and MAN does my roster reflect that.
In addition to all that HO, I have my father's old N scale collection, which I keep building upon, and my stepgrandmother's rather impressive Marklin HO collection, which baffles me because none of the locomotives work ALL the time.

Welcome PRR 4800! I have a Tyco fetish and found myself here! I don't believe in payin' $30 for a simple boxcar! I everything from AC Gilbert to Varney! Mantua and Tyco is what I'm really into!

Hey PRR, Your introduction sounds a lot like something I would write. I buy old TYCO, AHM, Athearn, or whatever I can find. Fix 'em up, kitbash, or modify. Lots of fun. Glad you joined the forum.

Ah, this forum is FULL of eclectic collectors, operators, and kit-bashers. Other than some '30's and 40's makers of HO, I have stuff from Varney, Globe, Penn Line, Hobbyline, Lionel, Cox, Revell, and of course Tyco, Bachmann, Life Like, etc. Welcome aboard, and post pics of your collections when you can. Own one of those modern Roundhouse EMD Model 40 Critters? I just DCC'ed one a few weeks ago, and tried it out on my club's layout. Fun to run! Tiny! Anyway, glad to have you aboard, you're not gonna get lynched unless you DON'T post some pics of your stuff! WE like VISUAL.

Welcome to this site. I too feel the exact same way as you do. Trains are made to be fun and although my collection includes Genesis, Protos, Athearns, Kato, Atlas, Ahm,etc..., they all share a common place in my collection with my tycos and mantua. I think the best way to describe folks here is modelers, people who make trains better.
Again, welcome to the site and enjoy.
If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right.
