I think this internet strike is bogus! I talked to some fellow geeks and hackers are somewhat to blame. Why does the gov't do this?! If these pricay guys would get in trouble... . Oh well, nice break from Yahoo!, eBay, and Facebook.

I think that the pressure from the public and the denial of service attacks will send this ogre of a bill back into the dark cave it crawled out from. I want security for us as much as anyone, but if it comes at the expense of absolute government control over my ability to obtain information or send my own thoughts, such as is exemplified by this very forum, then no thanks-there must be a less intrusive way to do it. I didn't t enlist as a young man to serve my country for less freedom, but to preserve that which we already enjoyed. Tragically, that measure has diminished over the years and I worry for my daughter's generation what their country will be like.

These bills have the appearance of good intent. The issue is that the potential for coladeral damage would be to great. Under these bills if a member of this forum posted copyrighted material in a post, including a photograph, regardless of the intent, the government could order the ISP to end the sites connection. A free forum does not have the funds to police the site to the necessary levels to avoid this. This is why I do not support this bill.
The way I see it the main issue is that the politicians are not technical enough to understand the ins and outs to properly construct this legislation. They are taking the information received from the lobbies and using that to make the bill. This Internet blackout and other forms of protest such as those used by Google helped to bring this issue to a larger audience that would be directly effected by the bills if they were to become law. Note that with the response generated by the public triggered by these protest on the Internet several of the bills backers have backed off. Even one of the initial co-sponsors has backed out of the bill.
Unfortunately today the average US citizen is clueless until after a bill becomes law as to what the effects are to them. Most need some prodding to get them to act in support of or against.
Just for the record I in no way support hacking (in the illegal sense) or pirating of intellectual property.
Just my 2 cents.

Our liberties fall way short for those innocent sitting in prisons. Thankfully, DNA is helping them get out, but very slowly.
We have sons who die, fighting for the freedom we don't even have.
Our Government is careless and incompetent. When was the last time we stood back and was thrilled about a government program? Do they ever do anything that makes people stand up and say, Wow! What a great job our government does!! I can't remember one.
Hope is not born in Washington, DC ...
