I got the bug to re-coupler/truck my extra and common cars to body mount Kadee #5's and newer trucks. I have had one success. Whats the best trucks to use and what size of screw/nut combo can I use to mount? I also noticed they are way too light! I got somebody I take the cars to get re-wieghted. I have a coupler hieght guage. The trucks is where I'm stuck!

Depends, Intermountain makes trucks my club used successfully to upgrade. Biggest problem with Tyco, Bachmann and other bodies is the big hole for the springy- finger-mounted trucks, the hole is so big, it's hard to fill. What I DID awhile back was buy some nipple nuts at a local bicycle ship, 1.8mm size, which actually threads to 2-56. Those are the spoke nuts for bicycle rims. I'd drill the hole slightly bigger in the Tyco base, and then shove a cut-down spoke nut into the hole with a soldering iron. Worked well for some of the cars. Need a dremel to cut them down with, though. There are other 2-56 knurled inserts I'd looked into, but never bought, those would require drilling and heat-insertion or glue in as well. Either way, it's not easy to convert to screw-mount trucks, takes a bit of doing. 4-40 and bigger screws just don't work in these HO trucks, you really need 2-56 screw size, so filling the hole first is the challenge, then it's easier.

Never thought of using the coupler box cover as a kingpin, nicely done. I've bookmarked your site, always learning something. Good way to start off Friday the 13th.
