While browsing thru under-table boxes, I noticed a white binder sticking up, picked it up, hey, TYCO Industries on it! WOW! Opened it up, dated 1974, from The Whistle Stop train shop in Richmond, VA. Is a service and parts manual for the Mantua and early Tyco engines, no PT diagrams, all MU-2. Pretty neat, I've taken some pictures of the pages, and hope to scan the entire manual sometime. Anyway, here's some tempting tidbits from the manual itself -

I'm going to try to start scanning the manual this week. Depends on my work load, I've got a scanner at work I can use, during my off-time. Anyway, cool find, anyone know how much value these may have to someone? I'm thinking of offering copies for sale if people are interested in them. Not sure how the orange borders will copy, usually they don't do very well. I'll try it at work tomorrow. Anyway, enjoy my find!

That's a great find! The under-the-table stuff is always full of surprises.
Be sure to let us know if you start selling them. I'd love a copy!

Hey Jerry:
Careful who you tell about copying that. It's a great idea but we have a lot of lurkers on here and well you get the idea...

Hi Jerry, Nice score !! I have one of the repair manuals too, same pic of what you picked up. I like paging through it, I also bought a similar version on ebay that looks like it's from the 60's. The one from the 60's includes loco's and cars.

I amend my previous statement - I will be willing to accept donations to cover the costs of paper and transportation, and for the sole purpose of educational enlightenment to those interested in studying this "course" of Tyco Service and Repair.

I've got one of these too. I always wondered what it was from. Did Tyco sell these or maybe hand them out to dealers or hobby shops that did Tyco repairs? I'll have to dig mine out. How many pages does yours have? I wonder if one of use are missing any?

Tyco gave these out to authorized Tyco repair dealers, those who were willing to sell and fix the Tyco products. Mine has the original contract up front ( see the photos ), so it was a business deal, and the hobby shop got this manual to go by for repair work and parts break-down. if you have one, you're very lucky, as they're not common. First one I'd ever run across myself.

I haven't had time yet to scan mine ( two vehicles needing repairs, etc. ), but I hope after the new year, I'll be able to get to it. Got a scanner at work I can use, just need the time to sit down and do it. I'll probably do it in both PDF and JPG formats, PDF for people and JPG to post to the HOSeekers literature section. Time, time, time...where does it all go?

Here are some pics of mine. The binder is from the Consoldiadted Foods era, yet mine has breakdowns and part info that might be from the red box and brown box eras. I also found a Mantua manual as well.

A PDF file with all the pages or even just the engine breakdowns would be a dream come true! I am also into RC cars. And on Tamiyaclub.com they have all the manuals for all the cars in PDF format and it is really nice. This is where my idea comes from. They could make a manuals section on the this site and put them in there for all to use.

I'm going to try to start scanning some pages today of the locomotives, probably the steam engines which have the most parts and most interest at this point. Work is not too intense yet, and I'll have some time after hours. So I can probably get some done this week.

Ok, I've scanned to JPG and PDF the following Tyco steam engines out of the Factory manual :
-Index - Pacific 212 - Mikado 208 - Dixie Bell 242 - Prairie 234 - Shifter II 238 - Booster II 237 - " 1890 " 233
I'll be happy to email anyone the documents in JPG or PDF format or both. I know people will read this at various times and may only want certain ones,so I'll try to keep up with requests as I can on an individual basis. *** Please *** send a PM to get 100% response, although you could post your request here, but it will keep the Forum cleaner if you do a PM, so lets keep it personal and the posting to this Post to a minimum. And I won't have to keep re-checking this post repeatedly for requests, either.
If anyone wants to donate to the educational fund (50 cents / 1 dollar), you can paypal me at gremlingts@aol.com. Strictly voluntary , for adminstrative costs. Please PM me your email address, and specify any or all files, and I will try to get the files emailed out as I can. Next up will be the Diesel/Trolley pages, not as much to them as the steam engines, obviously. Probably try to do those later this evening after work.
The PDF files are roughly 200 KB each, the JPG picture files about 450KB each. Shouldn't overload the average user's email inbox.

I'm guessing Jerry and I have the same thing. Some folks here have asked me to scan mine as well. I dont mind sharing with the group. This weekend I'll try to look and see if mine is any different than Jerry's, and what might be of interest.
My binder does have some old ink pen names and numbers written inside of it. Would anyone here know or recognize the names of any former Tyco employee's? All I can clearly make out is Sam Weissir and Bub Cameron, and then a PO box 550, Mooristown, NJ address. My binder came from a long closed hobby shop (Windsor Hobby in Berwyn, IL), so I only wonder if these could've been Tyco contacts for parts or dealer help?

I'm definitely interested in a full PDF version. No rush though. I'm primarily interested for my own perusal and useage (and the preview photos show some interesting tidbits), but if there was no opposition I could host this for free download on my site (with credit to the original source of course).
