Was up at my Brother-in-law's in PA yesterday, and he told me about a Hotwheels car that comes with a camera, so you can race the car, take videos, and play them back, also a wrist carrier and other options so you can take videos of non-track action. Here's a link to the details :
http://shop.mattel.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11743035&gclid=CMT9iOjAoq0CFcYRNAodmkrOmg&utm_medium=CPC&utm_source=Google&utm_campaign=Hot+Wheels+-+Video+Racer_G&utm_adgroup=Shop+-+Branded+-+Video&utm_keyword=hotwheels+video+racer
What is REALLY neat is that this thing has a built-in screen about 5/8 by 1 inch ! Also has a microphone. I took 2 5-second videos, and the quality is pretty decent, at least as good as some of the train videos I've seen. I'm going to set this car up on a flatcar today, and have it pushed by the engine around my loop to test it. One nice benefit is that you can position it anyway you want, facing back forward, off to the side, etc. 30 seconds of video only, but for the price, hey, can't beat it! Picked it up at a Wal-mart last night for $25, half the normal $50 price. With that small a screen, you could make some interesting HO diorama's with it. Mini-movie theater, TV in a shop, etc. I think if any of you train guys are into something like this, it would be a worthwhile investment for a cheap train camera. I'll see if I can "produce " something today, and post it. Anyway, thought I'd mention this neat miniaturized cam useable for train guys.

| I had seen these advertised. I am very curious to see how it works out, as I was thinking of using it for similar things. Or maybe even take it apart and mount it in something even smaller.

It'd be cool to build the system into a slot car! I wonder if that car is a standard sized (1/64th) hotwheel car.

eh, no, not standard sized length. It's a bit bigger than most HW's cars. It'll still fit the track , but it's larger. I was thinking it would probably fit nicely in a Tyco US-1 slot truck. I'm going to try to upload a video or two to my YouTube account, then post it here. Never done a Vid here before. Give me a few minutes....

Ok, here's a picture of the car itself :

Now, here's two Videos at YouTube, both about a minute long. Not bad quality for the price!
I didnt' find any more locally except one at Toys R Us, at $59.99. I think I prefer the 24.99 discount at Wal-mart. Well, a nice little toy to use with the trains, worked well, very little jitter, video and audio quality are acceptable. Hope you guys thought this useful. I think it may allow some of us non-monied guys to get train video now. :)

Um, the picture's broken. Anyway, I saw these things all over the place back in 2011. Pretty neat idea, actually.

I bought one of these for my train club buddy, he's put it in his R/C boat, and has been taking some awesome videos with it. Unfortunately, it's not a real-time thing, so he has to remove the camera , upload the videos, and then play them back. He'd love to have a real-time camera/transmitter set-up, but this Hotwheels cam works pretty good for now for him. I need to recharge mine( after I find it again ), and get it on my train once more, I did make a flatcar for it and it works well.

It has it's own small screen on the bottom, Jeff... plus it comes with it's own USB cable if I'm remembering correctly. Also comes with straps and other attachments to use on a bicycle , on your arm, etc...
