I just got a new layout and I noticed as the locomotive goes over one particular switch there is a fraction of a second when it hesitates, any ideas? I will try and post a video later, but I wanted to ask the question first.

does it happen on a continuous piece of track, or a block insulator, on a switch, or going over a connector wire ?

With the switches and cross-overs there is a small plastic section of rail right where two rails cross, right? If you have an engine with only 4-wheel pick-up, two wheels on each side, then for the split second that one of those wheels is sitting on the dead section it leaves only one wheel taking juice from the rail. If that one wheel is dirty or the track is dirty the engine could easily lose power for a split second.

Try cleaning the track, engine wheels, and make sure there is no ballast or other foreign objects caught in the switch.

If as the post's name implies, it happens at a switch easiest problem is dirty tracks. Next is a lose metal track coupling. Hardest is when to rivet that connects the track point is loose.
