...don't know what's been going on around here but this board has my Komodo Dragonware freaking out lately.
Just wanted to show my latest acquisition from romcat, a President's Choice Hudson, made by Mehano. I'm just ducky about the color, the gangsta whitewalls and the elephant ears...it runs quite nicely as well.

Alas, sigh, groan...it lost its bell sometime ago and replacements are hard to come by. So, with the help of a fortuitously sized rivet in the scrap box...

...a bit of brass wire and a well placed blob of solder...

...and some bending and buffing...

...my Canadian Belle has a shiny new bell...

Hey Shay!
I'm glad you like it. I love the colour. Have a few Diesels in that colour in CNR.
That unit has a sister, a parts unit (No pilot truck) and yes I checked for a bell first (!), It's going to NP for a Dummy Hobbytown PA which I hope to use in a combo drive unit...
Have you taken pics of the So76 GG yet? Love to see it on your photo section!
and glad you're back!

Hey Shayman:
Confession; in the 4-5 years I had her I never removed it from the box!
I was gonna offer you a discount to keep the belt buckle!
I am just so pleased you're happy with them!

The original 4800 ended her daze in Conrail Blue, ultimately ending up in static display at a museum. "Old Rivets" was the first GG1 built and was so nicknamed because its carbody was riveted, not welded, like all the others were. The AHM/Rivarossi model falls short in that regard but is an otherwise very accurate model of it as it was painted during the country's bicentennial. Sorry Gareth, the buckle stays as it is serial numbered the same as the certificate and loco.

Thats OK Shay, it's a whim and most whims (a) don't last and (b) aren't healthy.

I was perfectly happy with the deal I made with Shayman. I basically came out even on the two in terms of what I had in them and if Shay's happy so am I!
And, best of all it allowed me to wrap up part of a Brass deal with Ken before Christmas! .
So no regrets on my part. They both have a good home!

I really do like what President's Choice offered over the years in CN livery, especially the Hudson and the 2-10-2.
I'm sure it's been posted before, but there is a nice web page detailing each PC set:

I've never seen those Bicentennials go for anything near $300. In the past I've seen them go for less than the Blackjack, which seems to fetch about $150. Sudden nostalgia spike?

you just can't get past the Conrail thing!
Certainly visually more interesting than the BJ.

It has nothing to do with Conrail. It's the fact that last time I checked, they weren't going for anywhere near that price.
But as to being more visually interesting than the Blackjack, that's subjective. Not to me.

It was a definitive pimped out 70s paint job typical of the Bicentennial, that's for sure. As for value, if I really believed I could get the kind of coin for it, it would be posted yesterday. Those prices aren't typical and more reflect on bid mania and impatience rather than true value.

I agree, SG. That must have been some frenzied bidding. And even though it's not my favorite scheme, it was a difficult one to do and Rivarossi did a faithful, razor-sharp rendition. Their paint jobs were the best of that era.
I saw one of these in a standard AHM box go for no more than $60-$70 recently.
Edit: Just noticed that one on eBay was relisted at least 7 times before it sold for a 'buy it now' price of $249.
