The Texas Special. I bought this close to 20 years ago for a buck at an antique place, no other cars, no motor. I may replace the motor with a non stock one I have here. Eight wheel drive, no traction tires, and must have used bands to turn the axles if you look closely at the gearing in the trucks. Missing a step on the other side and onther small shell part near the rear coupler, I'll try to cast one and replace the other. The frame says The Lionel Corporation, New York NY, Made in US of America. Produced in '59-'62 as far as I can tell form HOSeeker catalogs from Mr. L. Schmitt's collection

It is rubber band/hi-f drive. These came out after Athearn left Lionel Corp around '58 or so. The Rivarossi C-Liners also got replace when Lionel started it's own line of engines.
