Bought at a show last weekend this is a Lionel GP9 from '65. It runs strong but needs the traction tires added. Both lights still light. The front coupler is truck mounted but the rear is frame mounted and I'm sure it's original to this model. Thanks to waw47 I know that Lionel used Athearn GP9 shells around '60 but when Lionel switched to their own GP9 shell the cab was done differently, taller and not as long. That difference makes the long and short hoods on the Lionel a bit longer toward the cab. Catalog pictures show these with out handrails making me wonder if they came with them originally. The shell is almost exactly like the Athearn's except for the cab. The place on the side where the SF herald is placed is raised slightly and is not on the Athearn shell.

Heres a engine from a yardsale. Came with 3 cars and loop of brass track! Never seen one before and $25 seemed to do. Seller said somebody told him the engine alone was worth $50! Has original horn too!

I think this is my first Silver Streak ever, found it at the flea market my wife is currently working at on weekends. Guy has rotated his HO stock from his home storage,I finally decided to get it at the end of the day. No hand rails, but the chrome is about as perfect as it comes.

I tried to run it, it moved for awhile, then stopped, and I saw some smoke come out. So it will need work to get it going again. Still, pretty decent for $12 and a perfect shell. I have the parts, I can rebuild it.

Also I have seen this trolley in a tin O gauge Probably it was for 027 hehe I'd paint mine to match the comic & belive it or not There was a few cartoons based on this comic as well

Hi Microbuses! Rare indeed! I paid $350 for this one. The last one I saw sold, went for almost $500 or more. and it was not powered:
http://brasstrains.org/kemtron-toonerville-trolley-brass-made-in-japan
There was a painted (& broken) one that sold in the beginning of the year for almost $700. I thought I got a fair deal considering. It was much more than what I would have liked to pay for sure, but less than the going rate.

not surprized, MnT hehe Probably won't find it at shows Anyway here is the ad from MR Jan 1954
See?? A 500% increase on price & I meant 1954 not 1965 To those who have read the Toonerville Trolley comic or watch the toon The grades & curves in the comic are impossible to do IRL or in model form Which btw are in book form So check your local library or on Amazon & even those books are collectables

Redneck Justin, Is your PC C-liner a Lionel. That might make it worth more? I thought I say some in the Lionel catalogs in HO Seeker's site.

Alco Fan, my C-Liner is a Ahm product. C-Liners sold by Rivarossi for Lionel was in the 50's. PC didn't form until 1967-1968 there abouts.

I saw the originals when I was a kid; the yellow stripes are too thick and the purple doesn't look right BUT having an engine in ACL colors is definitely a good thing for ACL fans. My grandparents lived along the C&WC (Charleston and Western Carolina) main line. They ran geeps in the ACL purple but lettered C&WC because ACL controlled the company. quote: For You, Redneck Justin! My ACL E8/9! To bad I don`t own a whole Champion Consist. But still, this engine looks AWESOME!

The AHM/Mehano C-Liners are very common, inexpensive locos. The most common is the 70's-80's version with the noisy 3 pole motor, which I tend to avoid. The initial runs in the 60's had a five pole motor, brass axles and a brass worm, and a screw holding the front truck in place instead of the later plastic tabs. The most I've paid for the 60's version is $15 NIB, so that $50 estimate is ridiculous. A yard sale is the last place to get an accurate value.
That said, $25 for the lot wasn't bad (especially if it's an early model), but I would have talked him down.

Thanks for the input Nelson! I do need a motor for it soon. Seems as if the brushes are grinding down on the commuter. There's copper dust all over the motor's top.

Justin, you can ease up on the brush wear by compressing the V spring to reduce pressure on them. The brushes are soft, and there's too much tension on them from the factory. Experiment with it to find the sweet spot. They do wear out quickly otherwise.
