Very nice GE diesels, microbusss! Is "The Rock" the same as Rock Island?
The Zephyr Limited! Precision engineered Proto 2000 Chicago, Burlington & Quincy E8A in stunning silver by Life-Like. More detailed than my Union Pacific E7 though just as heavy, this is one of the best diesels in my fleet. Here on prestige passenger duty, it dazzles equally hauling freight as E8's did in later life. STREAMLINER!!

My LOTW is a Mantua ( Man-Chew_ah ) steamer, a B & O 4-6-0 I got on Saturday at the Bunker Hill train show. very nice shape, paid $15 for it, runs ok, a bit hesitant, but with some lube and clean-up, will probably be fine. I'm finally starting to find some C&O and B&O engines in steam I like.

Here's my Penn Line K-4 that I just restored. I fixed the cab roof with JB Weld, then painted and decaled the whole thing. Just have the coal load left to add. The tender lettering could be centered better, but I was avoiding the rivets. I don't mind.

Still trying, Ken--doing it the way I've always done. Did try to shrink the pic. When I choose the pic and then click to upload, it says internet web page not available.
OK, got it now, may have posted the large version, but see above.

All metal, and really heavy. The previous owner added directional constant intensity lighting.

Thomas, It's a prototypical design and not a kitbash. I believe it had to do with giving the crews more space. I think there may have only been around 40 actual locos like the built. Bachmann made one in Chessie too.

Thomas here's a pic of the actual loco with the same road number however this was taken after SBD took over operations. They wanted more room for crews after they stopped using cabooses.

OK ken;
Here you go. According to Einstein, when the speed of light is exceeded light waves are bent around on things refracting light in a way wherin you can see things on the far side of objects before you get there. So, a Locomotive that ugly moving fast enough passing under a tree would appear to be falling from it.... the um, UGLY is just plain UGLY, no quantum pyhsics involved just gaudy taste.

I'm kinda partial to the "Q", it was an interesting evolutionary step toward modern loco cabs on GE's part, even if it had questionable aesthetics. Kind of but not entirely like how the Phase II GP30 had a longer cab on the conductors' side. Though in the BQ's case it's more like an electric loco cab was grafted onto a wrecked Dash-7.

Only 10 BQ23-7's were ever built, and all for Family Lines. Bachmann's Chessie unit is fantasy, but is properly assigned to C&O (the only Chessie road to roster GE units) and oddly enough would have ended up with CSX anyway. The Family Lines unit is actually pretty prototypical and well done for the era - even down to the traded-in EMD Blomberg trucks (check the photo AF posted above - it happens to be the same roadnumber).
The "Q" in the model number stands for "Quarters" cab, to replace the caboose as AF pointed out. Apparently safety concerns (impact protection - lack thereof) once crew requirements were relaxed led to them falling out of favor when CSX formally took over. Most of them had the windows plated over and designated as "B" units by the 90's, and I believe all were scrapped by the turn of the century.

Nice Tony, You can't go wrong with the Chessie paint scheme and I don't think I've seen many of the BQ23-7s painted like that. I wonder how long Bachmann made them?

I'll have to check that AF, he usually has such good taste. I thought it was some kind of U-Boat which are almost as ugly and bereft of style!
Thank Gawd Caterpillar bought EMD. About time there was real competition again for GE!

What a great mix of locos this week. Consolidated camelback, BQ23's and some diesels so colourful they make Chessie look dull!
Thanks for the Rock Island info, microbusss. I think I prefer the red and yellow Rock Island scheme, especially when it's on a Tyco shark!

It doesn't have to. It just has to derail in the Ugly Forest and hit every tree, like the aforementioned units.
