OK. My SW-7 trucks still act up! Got the gears from Hyponera (thanks!) in today, the truck acts as if its binding up and in fact the gears are crack free! Any ideas before I officially part it out? I wanna get this PRR calf (thanks toptrain!) running so it'll compliment my SW-7 cow (again, thanks toptrain!)

old trick, may or may not work for your situation... try and find some pearl drops tooth polish and dab some on the gears, run the loco either on a kd wheel cleaner or straight piece of track...
other option but I need a pic of the chassis and that would be the drive shafts may be too long, but note I'm thinking athearn so if it isn't...well I'll keep thnking...
just me Ray... and just because I have Tyco doesn't mean I am not a model railroader

Justin,
From your description it sounds like your trying to get them running cow & calf in tandem?
Per the pearl Drops advic an oldie but a goodie, are there any burrs on the gears?

Gear alignment is OK?
It's certain it's in the drive train? Could one of the wheels axles somehow be out of round? Where it rotates,in a bushing or what have you?
Sorry forgot to ask; the first question in troubleshooting is: Whats changed? Did it at any point operate properly?

Time to tear it down and check each sub-assembly.
Remove the trucks. Remove the worm. Roll the truck on the table. Without the worm in place, the wheels should roll smoothly and free. Check both trucks. Do the wheels roll well? If not, check that all the gears are in their mounting holes. Possible one is out of alignment.
With the drive shafts removed, check the motor. It should spin smooth and quietly.
If the trucks and motor run well, then the problem must be in the drive shaft parts. Possibly a shaft is too long or too short. Or maybe the parts are rubbing on the frame?
