hi

i am wondering whether all athearn 'blue box' era gear towers (for locos with plastic trucks) are the same height and width, and what those dimensions are?

Yes, they are the same when comparing the newer versions with plastic side frames. That is all the 4-wheel trucks are identical except for the side frames. Likewise, the 6 wheel trucks are identical except for the side frame as well.

The exception is the TM and PA trucks have very different wheel spacings. But I don't know if those were ever made with plastic side frames.
