Um, CVT:

Can you say; Mortgage/Rent, Car payments/upkeep, our kids educations, for those with younger kids orthodontists,... enjoy "It's a big sky!" while you can, cause it's likely the recession is NOT over it may get worse.

That whole auction has an odor to it. WHO would pay $27+ for shipping... Total insanity at best...

Recession-proof Tyco? A fool's concept, but maybe there are a few plausible cases.

A GN 430 in that variant (full logo with Rocky the Goat; the other GN 430 variant only has the roadname spelled on one line)... in box with handrails, is still the all-time record holder for highest price I have ever seen a Tyco diesel net on ebay: ~ $220 IIRC in Nov 2007. There might even be an old thread here about it (annnnnd if there is I'm cure CNVT will find it). So the price doesn't surprise me, actually... though I am surprised there were no bids all week, and no competition until the last two people sniped within seconds of closing. Usually, people stupidly outbid each other all week long on stuff like that. It pays to hold your cards close; I wonder what the winner was actually willing to pay.

That said, I paid $16 for one of mine, and $40 for the other in box. Ebay is nothing if not inconsistent...!

Ebay is now assessing seller fees on the shipping charges too, in addition to the item sell price, so that $27 is curious. Was it an auto-calculate based on a mistaken weight entry? I did that once and had no idea until would-be bidders asked me why something was 11 pounds instead of 1 OTOH $27 more than makes up for Ebay fingers in the shipping till...

I was the one that bought that GN 430. I eally couldn't afford it but I have all of the other 430's that Tyco made as well as a lot of other rare/hard to find Tyco engines. I probably paid too much for it. But it is just me and my dog in this world so I really don't care, even though I am currently U/E'd. Things even out in this world when collecting. Some rare items I have only paid $10-$35 dollars for. The 430 Penn Central 5628 I paid $12.50 for it.

My top bid was $118.23. The person I outbid had beaten me out on a few choice items before so I knew how to beat him on this. He seems to be a collector of choice Tyco Red Box items. Most of my auctions I win are on a snipe.....

The US shipping was $12.95. The $27.95 shipping is for Canadian Ebay buyers.

Me and another member of the forum were bidding against each other for a rare Mantua Tyco. I really wanted it. I went as high as $80 but was out smarted by my apponent. I eventually got one of the same engine for about a third of that auction. I didn't look at this auction closely but unless something funny is going on Some guy with the right income might look at that as small change.
The shipping is weird though.

All that matters is you are happy with the purchase and that you enjoy it. Too rich for me (I prefer cheaper stuff I can make better)but if you can afford it and want it, go for it.
If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right.

Yeah AFK:

I didn't see any signs of shilling, just sniping which is normal.

My point was about priorities. Some people put pleasure above all, tha'ts a hedonist. I don't think anyone on here could be fairly called that.

I just am old enough to have thought about all the things I've owned in my life and know the vast majority are gone or do go, and therefore what is their TRUE value these things?

Now if someone on here said, "hey look what I just made!" That is a creative act. That would impress me. Look what I just bought? Well, ya must be a Yankee's fan!

And what if I said " Hey, lookie what I just made out of something I just bought?" Ya gotta have something to start with. Of course, some collectors like to collect things just to have them and brag to others. Other people buy things to do something with them. I"m a little of both. Although my "DO" gene isn't always as strong as my "COLLECT" gene. But I've made more than a few mods to things, my talent is in mechanical and electrical ( and crazy ideas ), not painting/detailing. Maybe someday.

AFK;

You're probably too young to remeber this but the Saint Louis Cardinals had a RB play for them who came to play here in Toronto who was probably my all time favourite football player. Maybe not the best cause I saw guys like Johnny U play on TV as a kid. His name was Terry Metcalf. Incredibly versatile player.

Unfortunately, I am old enough to remember Terry Metcalf. He was a very versatile running back. I am old enough to rememeber the days of Jim Hart-QB and Johnny Roland-RB.

Hey AFK:

Congrats to your Cards on the Wildcard!

I was delighted to also see the Rays get in rather than Boston, and of course the Diamondbacks because they have two ex-Jays, two of my faves; Aaron Hill and especially John McDoanald on them.

Looking forward to the playoffs....

Ah! So we are talking baseball now! Allow me to put my 2 cents in for my Boys in Blue. Go Dodgers. Hopefully when we can our owner we can our cheap owner, we can build around Kemp and Kershaw.
Exciting playoff races this year. Go NL.

Hi romcat...... A great win for Cards over the Phillies. I know they will beat the Brewers and end up in the WS...
